Riposte
Tim Knappstein is one of the most experienced of South AustraliaŐs active winemakers. Having made, and then sold, his name in the Clare Valley, he was one of the pioneers of the Lenswood subregion in the Adelaide Hills, making wine under a series of different labels. Under the Riposte banner are some finely crafted and very affordable wines whose pure expression of feisty varietal flavours are generally bottled with interesting texture and complexity. Of particular interest to me are the bracket of pinot noirs and the heady, spicy but sadly discontinued Traminer. Why Australians shun the few decent examples we make of this variety is totally beyond me.
