A very pretty, early-drinking cabernet whose pastille-like fragrance of cassis, dark plums and fresh vanilla/cedar oak has a whiff of blue flowers and menthol. It’s medium to full-bodied, smooth and fine-grained, with piecing, translucent and sweetly oaked flavours of cassis, raspberries and plums finishing with freshness and moderate length.

Mount Horrocks is a long-established small Clare Valley producer whose range includes a delightfully fresh and faintly smoky barrel-fermented Semillon and the popular regional dessert wine benchmark of Cordon Cut Riesling. While its shapely Riesling is typical of the region, the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon each delivered finely crafted wines from the 2013 vintage.
