Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Shiraz 2005
A short to medium term and slightly jammy red whose pleasingly fresh, briary flavours of blackberries, cassis and dark plums are backed by mocha/coconut oak, suggestions of choc-mint, cloves and cinnamon. Full to medium weight, it’s smooth, supple and rather polished, with an intense, approachable palate underpinned by fine, supple and loose-knit tannin.

Winery
Jim Barry
Jim Barry is a well-established and traditional maker of Clare Valley reds and riesling, although it has developed a vineyard on the former Penola cricket ground in the southern sector of Coonawarra, today the source of the minty First XI Cabernet Sauvignon. Dating back nearly 30 years, The Armagh was amongst the first of the so-called 'Grange pretenders'. Since that time it has produced a number of classic releases, none of which have been better than the truly spectacular 2010 and 2012 vintage, the two finest yet. While the rieslings, led by The Florita, maintain exceptional consistency and focus, there's been a real development towards elegance and finesse in the reds since 2009. Led by its 2012 vintage, the Benbournie Cabernet Sauvignon is one of several fine examples. The company continues to deliver a variety of reliable and quality red wines plus a consistently excellent collection of rieslig.
