Powerful and seamless, it reveals an almost confiture-like bouquet of very ripe cassis, mulberries, blackberries, dark plums, currants and coffee knit with fresh, faintly smoky chocolate/vanilla oak and lifted by a whiff of spice. Its velvety, almost liqueur-like fruit is underpinned by a loose-knit, gravelly backbone, driving with intensity and concentration towards a lingering, soft finish. A classic expression of this deeply ripened genre.

Izway
Craig Isbel is not only a fine cut of a cricketer, but a very capable winemaker dedicated to the faithful regional expression of the Barossa Valley sites to which he has access. His instincts lead him towards a more plush, ripe and unctuous profile, but I deeply respect his work to support his fruit with tannins and genuine structure. The Izway wines are anything but the Barossa stereotype - they are deeply flavoured and truly ripened, but clearly come from a stylistic place that demands elegance and savoury quality.
