Craiglee Shiraz 2005
A finely crafted, stylish and savoury shiraz of medium depth and weight with a floral, spicy perfume of cloves and cinnamon. Framed by fine, drying tannins, its supple and minty palate of sweet blackberry, cassis and mulberry flavour and dusty, herbal undertones knits tightly with chocolate oak, finishing with lingering dark fruit and regional influences of mint and menthol.

Winery
Craiglee
Craiglee is a tiny vineyard sited on rolling hills and pasture country on the edge of Sunbury. It’s an historic property, with an ancient gravity-fed bluestone winery and cellars that could easily be deployed again if a posse of health bureaucrats suddenly saw the light. Its vineyard is principally planted to shiraz, traditionally making a heady, spicy wine of peppery style and rare elegance. The 2010 Shiraz continues to be one of my favourite Australian wines. Unusually for such a small maker, Craiglee also keeps good stocks of back vintage releases, for which it asks very reasonable prices.
