Cassegrain Chambourcin 2002

Vegetal aromas of confection-like cherries and berries are slightly meaty, with an underlay of vanilla oak. Lacking great length and persistence, the palate’s simple raspberry and plum flavours and light oak are bound by sappy and rather greenish tannins.

Winery

Cassegrain
Cassegrain has steadily expanded from its original base around Port Macquarie to become an active participant in a number of cooler New South Wales regions, from which it regularly changes the fruit sources of some of its wines, including those featured here. There's a complex and sophisticated, savoury stamp about these wines that stands them apart from the Australian mainstream. Cassegrain's reds tend to lack genuine conviction and ripeness.
