Bowen Estate Shiraz 2003
A restrained and finely presented, measured shiraz whose spicy, peppery fragrance of pristine cassis, dark plum, blackberry and mulberry fruit is supported by lightly toasty cedar/vanilla oak. Not especially complex, it offers a palate of full to medium weight and vibrant, dark-fruited and chocolate-like flavour backed by sweet oak and framed by fine, silky tannins. Long and minty, it’s polished and restrained, with undertones of forest floor.

Bowen Estate
Bowen Estate is a deeply respected family-owned vineyard and winery in the heart of Coonawarra’s famed strip of terra rossa soil, of which the Bowen family today owns an impressive 33 ha under vine, each of which are pruned by hand. The current wines reflect recent years of work in which the vineyard has been replanted to an estate-based selection of the property's finest clonal material. The 2014 reds, the Cabernet Sauvignon in particular, are exceptional. Reminiscent of the stellar 1984 vintage, it delivers a Graves-like combination of depth and gravelly structure. Based on this wine, and decades of excellent wines from this estate, it is high time the Bowens matched their quality with price, even if just notionally.
