A Coonawarra cabernet that reveals itself ever so slowly to possess a perfume of dark flowers, cassis, mulberries and dark plums with a hint of meatiness but also some rather raw and planky oak. Medium to fullish in weight, it presents a smooth, elegant palate with vivacious small berry fruit and a fine, powdery extract. While its oak does eventually tighten into the wine, it leaves a rather hard-edged and drying impression at the finish.
Thin, greenish and simple confection red berry fruit with sour notes of tinned asparagus.
Confection-like greenish mulberry and raspberry fruit backed by cedary and vanilla oak, with thin, greenish tannins.
Light earthy undergrowth and cedar bouquet with some leathery complexity. Some richness, but forward and hollow.
Very brown and pale with a simple, hollow and weedy palate. Long gone.
Simple, thin and vegetal and lacking fruit.
Powerful, if unsophisticated astringent dry red with a rich palate of intense minty red berry and plum flavours, a spicy, herby background and creamy vanilla oak.
Firm, leathery and green-edged, with developed earthy and undergrowth complexity behind sweet herby cassis and plum fruit. Little tough and extracted.
Powerful, long-term red whose cassis and violet bouquet precede a firm, tannic palate deeply flavoured with dark minty berry fruit and creamy chocolate oak and a green pepper background.
Muscular and concentrated wine with a heady, penetrative fragrance and an opulently flavoured, ripe palate of great length still needing time for its firm tannins to soften.
Wonderfully youthful, balanced and stylish, with a heady fragrance of violets. cassis, dark chocolates and cedary oak backed by dusty nuances of dried herbs. Long, firmly but stylishly structured, it supports its deep juicy flavours of small berries and plums with cedar/vanilla oak and a firm, tight-knit spine of fine-grained tannins. Long, focused and harmonious, still with many years to develop.
Stylish modern New World cabernet of great power and poise, packed with violets, cassis, plums and dark liqueur chocolates. Will last for ages.
