I think it’s a positive move for the wine from this vineyard to be given a Moss Wood label, given it is identified the way it is. Light earthy, herbal regional influences permeate its ripe aromas of cassis, mulberries and small red berries, while a smoky bacon-like background of oak and leather offset its restrained palate of small berry flavours. It’s a brooding, rustic sleeper of a wine, and although I’d prefer less alcohol, it has polish and complexity.
Very smooth, plush and intensely flavoured cabernet whose pristine floral fragrance of maraschino cherries, raspberries and redcurrants conceals a whiff of spirit and presents a generous measure of cedar/vanilla oak. Its deep flavours of bright red and dark berries are offered along a luscious but measured palate framed by velvet-like tannins and vanilla oak. Just lacks the complexity required for a higher score.
A generous and firmly structured cabernet whose elegance and harmony represent a step forward for the wines of this vineyard. Its ripe aromas of cherries, cassis, redcurrants and plums are backed by sweet mocha/vanilla oak and currant-like nuances. Long and supple, but overlying a fine-grained structure of genuine strength, its soft and vibrant expression of cassis, plums and blueberries is tightly woven with creamy, vanilla/chocolate oak.
A stylish, modern cabernet blend with pleasing elegance, depth and brightness of fruit. Its oaky, menthol-like aromas of mulberries, dark cherries, plums and cranberries reveal smoky, meaty and herbal undertones. Smooth and silky, its faintly sour-edged expression of cassis, cherries and blueberries is framed by slightly sappy tannins and backed by lightly smoky cedar/vanilla oak.
A charming medium-weight cabernet blend scented with violets and laced with sweet black and red berries and dark cherries tightly knit with creamy cedar/vanilla oak and a dusty undercarriage of loose-knit tannin. Long, smooth and finely balanced, it’s punctuated throughout by delicate nuances of dried herbs.
Earthy, floral and herbaceous, this minty, green-edged young cabernet supports light flavours of black and red berries with sweet, polished cedar/chocolate oak. Lacking a true core of ripeness, itÕs backed by firmish fine tannins and finishes with suggestions of green beans and currants.
A fine, supple, elegant and beautifully crafted Margaret River cabernet with spotless, floral scents of violets, cassis, red berries, plums and dark cherries backed by dusty, smoky cedary oak. ItÕs long and juicy, with a pristine, plush and elegant palate of layered small fruit flavours tightly and evenly knit with fresh creamy, bubblegum-like oak and supple tannins.
Delightfully elegant and complete, this smooth, deeply fruited and polished young blend has a vibrant scent of fresh violets, cassis, mulberries, dark cherries tightly knit with lightly toasty cedar/vanilla oak. Long and creamy, its luscious, evenly ripened palate of dark, juicy fruit and cedar/chocolate oak culminates in a finish of genuine balance and charm.
Dusty, herbal aromas of red and black berry fruits, slightly varnishy cedar/vanilla oak and a whiff of bell pepper precede a smooth and polished palate whose juicy expression of cassis, red berries, mulberries and dark cherries is underpinned by fine, firmish tannins. Initially a little angular, it takes time in the glass to reveal more fruit sweetness.
Supple and elegant, with an evolving, slightly leathery fragrance of cassis and mulberries and backed by a slightly raw and pungent measure of cedar/mocha oak. Its long, fine-grained palate of bright blueberry, cassis and blackberry flavour is framed by fine, firmish tannin but reflects some splintery and rather disjointed pine needle-like and chocolatey oak.
Dull and old-fashioned, with stale, rustic and rather horsey aromas of light berry fruit and older oak. Fullish to medium-bodied, itÕs long and deeply flavoured, with a faintly sour-edged presence of sweet red berries and dark plums and cedary oak thinning out towards a green-edged, metallic finish. Lacks fruit and freshness.
Capably made and honest, with a delicate, faintly mineral bouquet of cassis, dark cherries and cedary oak lifted by scents of blue flowers. ItÕs long and elegant, with fresh, moderately intense small berry and cherry flavours knit with cedary and faintly gamey oak, supported by a dusty, loose-knit spine and finishing with pleasing length, a fresh acidity and a herbal note.
