Perfumed, spicy aromas of cinnamon, apricot blossom, rose petals, black pepper and cloves over deep, dark and briary scents of redcurrants and blackberries with a meaty element beneath. Smooth and creamy, long and vibrant, its pristine, measured palate of pure dark berry flavours finishes with velvet-smooth tannins and lingering spicy fruits. A fine example of what the Yarra Valley might well be doing more of.
A smooth, silky and approachable blend whose juicy expression of vibrant sweet berry fruit, exotic spices and restrained cedar/vanilla oak are wrapped in soft, fine tannins. It’s musky and floral, bursting with pristine fruit, and finishes fine and savoury. Its viognier is moderately assertive, while the wine just lacks the length for a higher rating.
Deeply aromatic and flavoured, this silky-fine, smooth and stylish red tightly marries the best of both varieties with some pleasing reductive complexity. Its meaty, charcuterie-like aromas of blackberries, dark plums, plain chocolate and cinnamon/clove spices are lifted by fresh, blueberry-like nuances. Medium to full in weight, with piercing cherry, plum and berry flavours backed by restrained cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak, it’s framed by smooth but firm tannins.
Earthy, floral and apricot-like viognier-driven aromas lift scents of fresh blackberries, cassis and raspberries, with a sweet background of vanilla/mocha oak. Medium to full in weight, its plump, juicy palate is underpinned by a powdery chassis of pliant tannins, finishing savoury and Rhney, with measured oak and brightness. It’s well enough balanced, but perhaps the viognier was fractionally overdone.
