A tight, lean red with an earthy, bony aroma of light plum and red cherry fruit over spicy, fruitcake-like notes of grenache. Sappy, under-ripe notes lurk beneath some meaty, spicy plummy fruit, while the finish is a little mean and ungenerous.
Meaty, green-edged and bell pepper flavours provide an obtrusive backdrop to sweet cassis and plum-like fruit. This wine appears to have been made from fruit left out to ripen beyond the vineyard’s ability to photosynthesise, and is given sweetness through smoky chocolatey and vanilla oak.
A charmingly spicy and early-drinking shiraz with generosity, softness and structure. Its meaty and slightly peppery scents of dark cherries and cassis reveal musky undertones of cloves and cinnamon, dark chocolate and cedar/vanilla oak. There’s also a suggestion of earth and leather. Smooth and peppery, with pleasingly persistent fruit supported by sweet oak and fine tannins, it finishes soft and savoury.
Meaty, daggy, dried out and reductive. Backed by nuances of herbs and white pepper, it’s cooked, thin and simple, with a forward palate of raisin and currant-like fruit that lacks length and fruit sweetness. Lacking freshness and life, it’s held together by gluey oak.
Spicy, peppery aromas of moderately intense dark fruits precede a restrained, elegant and fine-grained palate. Finishing rather savoury and meaty, it’s lively and quite stylish, while its flavours of dark fruits, white pepper, cloves and cinnamon are just fractionally hollow.
