Now revealing truly varietal bottle-aged complexity, this assertive, supple pinot noir packs the strength to belie its fineness. Deeply scented with tobacco, spicy fruitcake, maraschino cherries and plums, its palate remains sappy, vibrant and firm.
Beautifully crafted, its deep spicy bouquet suggests dark berries, cherries, undergrowth and game/leather flavours above a background of cedary and vanilla oak. Velvet-smooth, it’s still firm, tight and fleshy, finishing with dry powdery tannins.
Sweet floral aromas and sappy red and black berry fruits are challenged by smoky mocha oak, while the palate offers a supple, soft mouthfeel of ripe dark plums and cherries before a lightly varnishy finish.
Another excellent wine from a difficult vintage, revealing sweet raspberry and cherry flavours and some fleshiness, but rather too much greenish dusty bell-pepper and some harder spiky acids.
Astonishingly powerful Peninsula pinot noir, this alluring wine presents a deep perfume of dark cherries, sweet red plums and wild fruits, hints of mint, musk and sweet oak. Silky-smooth despite its concentration of pure spicy fruit, it shares the warmth and sweetness of a fine Vosne-Romane, with assertive, but balanced alcohol and tannins.
