An elegant, generous chardonnay whose delicate floral, nutty aromas of melon and peach are backed by vanilla oak and a hint of bakery yeast. Smooth and juicy, its viscous, creamy palate of ripe, mouthfilling fruit finishes with softness and suppleness, with a lingering note of fig. It just lacks the definition for an even higher rating.
A faintly greenish, very semillon-like and contemporary chardonnay whose delicate, nutty bouquet of melon, lemon and tobacco leaf is backed by quite assertive toasty, creamy vanilla oak. Its long, seamless palate has a greenish thread beneath its very restrained flavours of quince and peach, while its oak is quite evident and assertive. It finishes with very reserved but persistent fruit and herbal influences.
Long and fresh, with an ability to age and a delicate, floral and lightly spicy bouquet of peach, nectarine, pear and apple backed by restrained dusty vanilla oak and a hint of cashew. Smooth and creamy, with a nutty, spicy presence of peach, apple and pear-like fruit, creamy, buttery oak and a bright acidity, it finishes fresh and racy, with a lingering core of smooth flavour.
Forward and heavily wooded, revealing ripe cashew, grapefruit and nectarine fruit with buttery oak. Creamy, buttery palate with cashew-like and ripe melon/apple fruit, spicy oak and hint of grapefruit and citrusy finish. Good length, quite phenolic and firm. Attractively weighted with lightly chalky finish.
Henschke releases a step forward in sophistication for its Lenswood chardonnay, revealing a careful integration of intense tropical/stonefruit varietal fruit with lightly smoky and nutty vanilla oak. There’s loads of up-front ripeness, mouthfilling flavours and a persistent finish.
