Gentle and perfumed, this lively blend reflects a cooler season in a warmer climate. Its lively bouquet of pristine black and blue berries, rhubarb and redcurrant is lifted by nuances of cracked pepper, dusty spices and a floral note. ItÕs long, gentle and fine-grained, with a lively core of blue, black and red berry flavours backed by dark plums, a hint of earthiness and a fine, powdery spine. Finishing with lively acids, spice and softness, itÕs finely balanced and lingering.
Shiraz-driven, with peppery, earthy scents of violets, cassis, blackberries and mulberries backed by restrained cedary oak and smoky, faintly meaty and mineral notes. Medium to full-bodied, polished and fine-grained, with pristine, penetrative flavours of blue, black and red fruits supported by dusty tannins, it becomes more meaty and savoury down the palate, culminating in rather a firmish, mineral and refreshing finish.
Medium to fullish in weight with a smoky, faintly meaty fragrance of violets, cassis, redcurrants and blueberries with suggestions of cracked pepper and cranberries. ItÕs soft and juicy, with a spicy, earthy presence of black and blue fruits overlying firmish tannins, finishing with soft acids, a hint of licorice and modest length.
Spicy scents of cassis, blackberries, blueberries and briar with undertones of spice and white pepper reveal nuances of restrained oak and fennel. ItÕs medium to fullish in weight, long and gentle, with a marginally hollow shiraz-driven palate supported by fine, drying tannins that become more firm and slatey towards the finish. It should flesh out over time.
Musky, meaty aromas of dark cherries, liqueur plums and blackberries with smoky undertones precede a long and drying palate that slowly unfolds briary flavours of black and blue fruits. ItÕs firm and quite skeletal, lacking a true core of vibrant fruit before finishing quite savoury with some pleasing complexity.
Ripe and bloody; scented with brambly red and black fruits, cedar/vanilla/pine needle oak, spearmint and menthol. Initially plush, smooth and creamy, with a pastille-like presence of dark, plump berry flavour with herbal, cola-like undertones, it quickly becomes more tarry, short and drying towards its stringy, attenuated and bitter finish. ThereÕs plenty of length Ð after considerable breathing Ð but the hard edges remain after a full day and more. I would love to point this wine higher for its fruit, but its raw, uncompromising finish prevents me from doing so.
