Disappointing wine with earthy, meaty aromas of prunes and herbal undertones. Under and overripe, with a forward, developed and thin palate that finishes sappy and green-edged. A reflection of the extremely hot vintage.
An honest, early-drinking wine whose slightly jujube-like fruit is partnered by raw-ish smoky and tobaccoey oak. There’s a floral aspect to its oaky aromas of cassis and mulberry, while its palate is smooth, elegant and fine-grained, but essentially light and fragile, lacking a genuine core of ripeness. Soft and pliant, with rather simple small berry and plum flavours.
More of a forward, juicy Rosemount-like red style, with a sweet, floral perfume of mulberries, plums and blackberries, backed by lightly smoky vanilla oak and earthy, peppery undertones. Its soft, smooth and vibrant palate of jammy, jujube-like fruit and sweet oak are backed by a gentle undercurrent of fine tannins.
Firmish, fullish but rather stressed and dehydrated, this slightly awkward blend has a briary, floral and stewy bouquet of dark plums, currants and berries. Its palate has sinew but not strength, lacking mid-palate presence and weight.
Juicy, ripe and generous, this spicy and slightly stewed expression of dark plums, black and red berries is scented with violets, pepper and black tea leaves and supported by rather polished creamy chocolate/vanilla oak. ItÕs framed by firmish, chalky tannins but remains pleasingly long and smooth.
Honest, but perhaps not evenly ripe throughout. ItÕs spicy, meaty and earthy, with deep aromas of blackberries and blueberries backed by seasoned cedar/walnut oak. Its smooth, sweetly fruited palate of black and red berries and cedar/vanilla oak overlies a fine, drying backbone and finishes rather short, with suggestions of dried herbs and some slightly cooked, jammy fruit.
Honest and flavoursome, perhaps lighter than usual, with sweet, earthy and slightly muddy aromas of cassis, blackberries, redcurrants and raspberries knit with fresh, lightly smoky cedar/vanilla and coconut oak. ItÕs sweet and juicy, with elegance and polish, but reveals a hint of currant-like flavour at the finish that should become less noticeable as the wine fleshes out over the short to medium term. Smooth and fine-grained, it might lack the length for a higher rating, but it does represent great value for money.
An elegant, fine-grained red of translucent brightness and freshness that just lacks the length for a higher rating. Its sweet, confiture-like bouquet of cassis, mulberries and stewed plums knits is gently backed by cedar/vanilla/chocolate oak, with undertones of white pepper and violets. ItÕs smooth and measured, with a lively brightness and purity, finishing soft and supple.
A good little wine with a bright, spicy, lightly dusty and herbal bouquet of confectionary-like blackcurrant, blackberry fruit and fresh creamy cedar/vanilla oak. Medium in weight, itÕs smooth and polished, with a moderate length of vibrant small berry flavours, restrained oak and a fine, pliant spine of dusty tannins, culminating in just a hint of breakdown at the finish.
