A fresh and lively white blend whose generous, if slightly candied flavours of citrus and melon overlie some creaminess as well as a hint of talc and minerality. It’s long and lean, while refreshing acids lend a crisp crunchiness to the finish.
Given the original Koonunga Hill label and made to its original standards of style and quality, this wine reconnects this brand to the traditional Penfolds ethos. Deep, brambly aromas of dark plums and berries with layers of cedar/chocolate oak and earthy, leathery undertones precede a rich, creamy palate whose meaty ripe liqueur fruit flavours are tightly knit with firmish but pliant tannins. It’s long and savoury, with just a hint of saltiness.
Ultra-ripe for a Penfolds red, but with the balance to cellar. Slightly raisined, its currant-like aromas of plums, blackberries and blueberries are handsomely backed by smoky chocolate and gamey aromas, with an assertively spicy and meaty background. Very firm, itÕs long and densely packed, with a deep, dark presence of dehydrated fruit whose sweetness is augmented by newish oak supported by a drying spine of crunchy tannin.
Elegant, spicy and sweetly fruited, this smooth and silky blend is likely to age well. Its spicy, pastille-like aromas of blackcurrant and raspberries are laced with white pepper and knit with fresh vanilla/cedar oak, while its palate delivers a pleasing length of dark berry/plum flavours carefully balanced with oak and fine tannins.
Supple and elegant, smoky and slightly meaty, this modern Penfolds red unveils a vibrant bouquet of blackberries, cassis, raspberries and mulberries tightly knit with aromatic oak and lifted by scents of blue flowers. ItÕs long, smooth and charmingly balanced, with a brightly lit pastille-like presence of dark berries and plums, cedary and faintly chocolatey oak wound around a tight, crunchy spine of dusty tannins, finishing with freshness and persistence.
A more modern, elegant style whose spicy, slightly meaty and violet-like bouquet of densely packed black and blue berries and dark plums is backed by chocolatey oak and suggestions of licorice. It’s long and velvety, with a delicious presence of ripe, brightly lit fruit and chocolate/vanilla oak supported by firmish, crunchy tannins, building in intensity towards a polished finish of charm and purity.
