Generous and quite richly textured, this relatively early-maturing Elizabeth has a buttery, toasty bouquet of lemon and melon-like fruit backed by nuances of honey and candy. Its fresh, forward and tangy palate of melon and citrus flavour overlies with suggestions of cloves, nutmeg and bathpowder. ItÕs quite viscous for this style, but does finish with a clean and refreshing acidity.
A gentle cellaring semillon for the medium term. Its lively bouquet of fresh white flowers, lemon and melon aromas and dusty nuances of spice, cloves and tobacco leaf precede a juicy, vibrant and even palate whose long expression of citrusy fruit overlies sherbet-like phenolics. It finishes smooth and gentle with pleasing length, freshness, focus and refreshing acidity.
A perennial benchmark for value and quality in Australian white wine, the 2006 Elizabeth retains plenty of youthful freshness. Its lightly toasty bouquet of juicy melon and lemon rind reveals a hint of waxiness and a hint of white flowers. Tangy and mouthfilling, itÕs smooth and easy-drinking, delivering a ripe, approachable palate backed by nuances of tobacco, ginger and cloves. Pleasingly long, it finishes with fresh flavours and a faintly brittle acidity.
A fresh, finely weighted and sculpted traditional expression of Hunter semillon whose pure, delicate, lightly grassy and tobaccoey aromas of melon precede a pristine and charmingly fresh palate whose brightly lit and juicy core of melon fruit and lemon sherbet extends with excellent length and focus towards a fresh, vibrant finish.
A pristine, crystal-clear young semillon with everything perfectly in order for a long cellaring life. Weighing in at an appropriately lean 11% by volume, it packs a surprising intensity of primary fruit. Dusted with a lightly spicy, nutty bouquet of melon, citrus and tobacco leaf lifted by a scent of white flowers, itÕs long, juicy and elegant. Underpinned by a faint chalkiness and wrapped in crisp, refreshing acids, it finishes clean and dry, with a lingering note of lemon sherbet.
Rather a departure from the time-honoured Elizabeth, with an intense, almost pungent, lightly grassy bouquet of fresh gooseberries and melon that is perhaps more suggestive of Western Australia. ItÕs brightly lit and juicy, with luscious fruit and herbal nuances backed by a fine chalkiness and wrapped in a racy, lemony acidity. A pleasing wine indeed, but rather an unexpected one!
A finely balanced cellaring white whose spotlessly fresh, lightly tobaccoey aromas of melon and lemon reveal a hint of bathpowder. ItÕs round and generous, with juicy flavours of melon and apple extending long and creamy over a finely crafted chalkiness, finishing savoury and faintly smoky with gentle lemony acids.
A long-term regional classic whose rather ripe and forward aromas of peach, melon and citrusy notes are lifted by a floral scent of apple blossom. Its piercingly, unusually intense flavours of lime juice and lemon move down a taut, racy palate with rare depth and focus for this style, culminating in a tangy, citrusy finish.
