The best Holy Trinity yet, with a peppery, spicy and briary fragrance of intense blackberry, raspberry and blueberry aromas over suggestions of licorice, meat and musk. It’s upfront and generous, with intense spicy fruit that moves along the palate towards an earthy, nutty and savoury finish wrapped in fine-grained tannins. Long and lingering, with an appealing contribution from mourvdre.
Ageing, leathery expression of the traditional Australian burgundy style of red with a chocolatey, licorice-like aroma of slightly baked blackberries and plums backed by nuances of sweet cedary oak. Soft and sweet, it offers some lively forward fruit but finishes with a drying and rather metallic finish. Not bad from this vintage.
Becoming old and tired, this firm and grippy blend lacks its youthful brightness of fruit. Its earthy, meaty and rustic bouquet of baked plum and berry fruits reveals undertones of saddlery and cooked meat. Medium to full in weight, it offers a little more fruit sweetness over a meaty, savoury and earthy finish.
A rather old-fashioned and sweet-fruited red blend whose spicy, floral and slight confectionary aromas of cranberries and plums reveal earthy, spicy undertones and suggestions of mint and menthol. Smooth and supple, its vibrant expression of spicy blueberry and plum-like fruit is framed by tight, fine and powdery tannin. Restrained and savoury, it’s just beginning to age and dry out.
Spicy, long and savoury, this generous Rhne blend is a delightfully old-fashioned and fine-grained Australian red with charm and character. Scented with liqueur cherries, raisins, dark chocolates and currants backed by older oak, itÕs quite earthy and leathery, with a suggestion of iodide. Its generous, sweet-fruited, slightly minty and herbal palate of fresh raspberries and redcurrants is underpinned by fine-grained and drying tannins, finishing with pleasing length and freshness.
Elegant and fine-grained, with a floral, briary and faintly meaty bouquet of blueberries, redcurrants and red cherries, cloves and cinnamon dusted with hint of white pepper and a touch of oak. ItÕs smooth and supple, with a juicy presence of sweet red, blue and black berry flavours tightly supported by soft tannins, finishing with persistent note of cassis, a hint of cloves and licorice and a fresh acidity.
