Finely honed, supple and willowy merlot, with a floral perfume of black cherries, cassis and mulberries backed by cedar/vanilla oak and herbal and tobaccoey undertones. Long and smooth, its vibrant cherry/plum/cassis fruit and restrained oak reveal some faint dusty, leafy undertones. It’s tightly integrated and brightly flavoured but lacks the length for a higher rating.
A ripe, generous and deeply fruited merlot whose delicate, floral and dark-fruited aromas of mulberries, dark cherries and plums knits neatly with sweet cedar/vanilla oak. Framed by rather kernel-like tannin, its sumptuous expression of dark berry/cherry flavour and dusty, newish oak culminates in a persistent, meaty finish of refreshing acidity. It’s all about restrained power.
A sumptuous, polished, smooth and complex merlot whose deep fragrance of dark plums, blackberries and dark cherries is handsomely backed by cedar/vanilla oak, suggestions of minerals, undergrowth and a slight meatiness. Supported by fine-grained chassis of dusty tannin, its exceptionally long, succulent and harmonious palate deftly marries sour-edged fruit and savoury oak, finishing with an invigorating acidity.
Clearly affected by smoke taint, with a modest presence of bright cherry, plum and dark berry flavour coupled with chocolatey oak and backed by meaty undertones. ItÕs angular and bitter, with a lean, raw and metallic ashtray-like finish.
Spectacularly varietal, this long, rather closed merlot will become more luscious and assertive with time. Its earthy bouquet of cranberries, mulberries, dark cherries and plums knit tightly with cedar/vanilla oak, while its palate is long and sumptuously fruited, but holds back a brooding core of pure varietal fruit. Supported by firmish, fine and loose-knit and grainy tannins, itÕs finely balanced and finishes with refreshing acidity, exceptional length and brightness.
Earthy, meaty aromas of raspberries, rose petals and citrus oil whole bunch influences are backed by very assertive, charry, mocha-like oak and cola. Supported by a fine, slatey backbone, itÕs initially fresh and concentrated but finishes short and thin, lacking genuine length, depth and presence of fruit.
Slightly old-fashioned and velvety, with a sweet, faintly meaty bouquet of red berries, dark plums and chocolate/coffee grounds oak backed by suggestions of cumin seeds and roasting pan juices. Round and juicy, long and smooth, its luscious core of fruit builds richness and power down the palate, finishing with emphatic oak and mouthwatering acids. Rather polished and showy.
Spicy and perfumed, with fresh aromas of cassis, mulberries and blackberries knit with sweet, tight-grained vanilla oak and lifted by charming notes of cracked pepper. A pretty wine, itÕs supple and succulent, with juicy, confection-like fruit, but is dominated by high-toned charry oak and finishes short of a length.
This viognier is perfumed with honeysuckle and apricot blossom, finishing clear and mineral. It’s long and seamless with perfectly accentuated fruit accompanied by a minimum of winemaking interference.
A fraction warm and spirity for a higher rating, itÕs spicy and translucently clear, with musky aromas of tangerine, grilled nuts, minerals and smoked meats. Round and luscious, its juicy core of fruit moves down a faintly crunchy line towards a restrained finish of impressive intensity.
