More of a leaner, minerally Elizabeth with an austere, steely finish, this slowly developing wine is showing some honeyed and toasty complexity, ripe melon fruit and hints of saltbush. Its chalky texture and length suggest a long future.
Showing plenty of age, this developed and toasty semillon reveals typical smoky, lanolin-like development with nuances of grilled nuts, lemon and honey. Slightly candied and sherbet-like, its mouthfilling palate of creamy, buttery and toasty flavours finishes long and slatey. It’s crisp and refreshing, with a lingering chalky texture.
A lively and flavoursome but faster-developing Elizabeth whose fresh lemony aromas of sherbet and ripe tropical fruit have a slightly candied, toasty aspect. Its moderate depth of melon and tobaccoey fruit is finished by a refreshing cut of citrusy acidity. Lacks its customary depth and character.
Classic Hunter semillon with a delicate, but pristine aroma of honeydew melon, lemon and tobacco leaf. Long, smooth and polished, it’s perhaps more concentrated that usual, delivering a refined, if slightly soapy palate of lingering fruit and dusty, herbal nuances. Very restrained, fine and elegant, likely to develop great complexity.
A toasty, smoky and forward Elizabeth from a hot vintage. Its evolving melon and citrusy aromas are backed by rather a funky, meaty and reductive quality, while its unusually robust palate has more texture and ripeness than usual. There’s a rich core of sumptuous fruit, plenty of developed complexity and a persistent and tangy finish.
