Rather cheesy and floral, this very develop and slightly Germanic riesling offers some nutty, toasty complexity and a savoury
finish that is beginning to dry out and shorten a little.
A big, creamy riesling whose developed toasty and honeyed flavours are still lifted by hints of grapefruit and tropical fruits. Long and chalky, it’s lacking the real penetration of the best vintages.
Maturing but beautifully preserved wine with developed toasty, buttery, nutty and beeswax aromas and a long, generous, savoury palate whose complex toasty and citrus flavours are punctuated by mineral acidity and lively suggestions of pear, apple and lime juice.
Surprisingly developed, with cooked apple and toasty, creamy, dried flower aromas, rather lacking in freshness and intensity. Rich and creamy, rather broad and buttery, lacking the freshness and focus of the better wines. Slightly sweet/spiky to finish, but still a big, generous mouthful of riesling.
Beginning to reveal true bottle-aged complexity, with toasty, butter and dried straw aromas, this delicate and maturing riesling has a penetrative rose petal fragrance and a slightly minty, herbal note to its long, creamy palate. It’s clear and vibrant, but finishes with a slight trace of sugar.
Light toast, honey and butter aromas are beginning to infiltrate the intense lemon rind and dried flower aromas of this brightly flavoured, long and fleshy riesling. Unusually powerful for a Watervale, it’s superbly focused around pure riesling fruit. Rich and distinctly viscous, it finishes dry and clean.
Rather a spicy and slightly spiky, sweaty aromas overlay attractive apple and pear fruit, while the smooth, supple palate of grapefruit and lemony acids finishes on a slightly prickly note.
Another brilliant release from the lesser-known of the twin Grosset labels whose delicate spicy fragrance suggests citrus blossom and rose petals, before a juicy, ripe and fleshy palate whose excellent length of pear/apple fruit culminates in a steely, lemony finish. It has a longer future than most of its predecessors.
Penetrative aromas of tropical fruit, lime juice and lemon rind over hints of musk and wet slate precede a long, chalky and austere palate whose fresh lemon/lime and fairy floss flavours finish with clean citrusy acids. (Stelvin seal bottling)
Its slightly more evolved appearance and slightly toasty aromas of apple, pear, lemon and lime contrast with the Stelvin sealed version of the same wine. Very pure and essential riesling, with piercing tropical and melon fruit, a fleshy texture and a bright mineral acid finish. Fresh and racy. (Cork seal bottling)
Fine, pure, long-living riesling whose bright, fragrant core of intense citrus and tropical lime/guava aromas are backed with a tingling mineral freshness also present at the culmination of its long, clear and translucent palate, which simply bursts with essence-like fruit and finishes with a tangy wet slate/mineral texture and acidity.
Delightfully fragrant and perfumed, deeply scented with musky aromas of paw paw, guava and freshly cut roses. Long, fine and stylish, with fleshiness and texture and racy fresh cool fruit finishing taut and trim, framed by lemony acids. Terrific freshness and balance; a marvellous wine to drink now or to cellar.
