A fine, elegant and faintly green-edged cool year shiraz with a bouquet of spicy dried herbs and white pepper, cassis and dark plums, cedar/chocolate oak and a whiff of mint and menthol. Framed by fine tannins, its supple and lightly sappy palate reveals undertones of vegetal characters and cedary oak.

    Balnaves Shiraz 2006
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Pristine aromas of blueberries and blackberries are scented with violets, lavender, and lightly toasty cedar/vanilla oak. Initially smooth and juicy, with a firm, pliant chassis, it acquires rather a baked and green-edged expression as it moves down the palate, with an intense currant-like presence that becomes slightly metallic and greenish towards its salty, raw and mineral finish.

    Balnaves Shiraz 2008
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Stylish and savoury, with elegance and some meaty complexity, this dark-fruited shiraz of medium weight has a sweet, floral perfume of blackberries and redcurrants, dark chocolate oak and spicy nuances of nutmeg and cloves, mint and menthol lifted by sweet floral aromas. Its long, sour-edged expression of blackberries, dark cherries and plums is supported by fine, silky tannin and a hint of mineral.

    Balnaves Shiraz 2009
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A minty, herbal shiraz whose faintly baked aromas of sweet black and red berries, cedary oak and musk reveal clove-like undertones and a hint of menthol. ItÕs lean and quite polished, with a pleasing depth of cassis and raspberry-like fruit knit with sweet, smoky vanilla oak, but finishes with a hint of currants, sourness and greenish acidity. Reflects some faintly under and overripe fruit.

    Balnaves Shiraz 2010
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Marginally under and overripe, this deeply flavoured, slightly raw and sinewy shiraz has an earthy, herbal and meaty bouquet of red berries and plums, cedary/chocolatey oak backed by notes of spearmint and menthol. Its firm, rather hard-edged palate of currant and raisin-like fruit lacks great fruit sweetness and dries out towards a raw and meaty finish. It should become smoother and more polished with time, but it does appear at odds with the elegance and charm of the finest Coonawarra shiraz.

    Balnaves Shiraz 2013
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Slightly sweet and jammy, this polished, elegant shiraz has a violet-like fragrance of cassis, redcurrants, dark plums and sweet cedar/vanilla oak lifted by nuances of cracked pepper. ItÕs medium to full-bodied, with a smooth, juicy presence of dark plums and mulberries playing down a loose-knit spine of drying tannins, but finishing a shade too candied and tomatoey for a higher rating.

    Balnaves Shiraz 2015
    Jeremy’s score 86/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sinewy and rather dried out, with a meaty presence of cassis, currants and dark chocolate supported by rather a drying metallic spine. Finishes with an awkward acidity.
