A classic dark, precisely balanced and integrated Balnaves style, with a deep, heady bouquet of cassis, violets, blackberries and plums knit with sweet cedar/cigarboxy oak. Savoury, smooth and fine-grained, itÕs vibrant, dark and mineral, opening to reveal layers of sweet, ripe fruit and smoky, polished cedar/vanilla oak luxuriantly supported by firm, silky-fine tannin.
Heady layers of blackberry, dark plum, cassis and mulberry aromas overlie fresh vanilla/cedar oak, before a long and finely astringent palate of medium to full weight. Deeply flavoured with intense flavours of dark plums and small berries tightly knit with fresh oak, it finishes with charming length and balance. Just fractionally baked for a higher score.
While the bouquet is perhaps a little dull and over-oaked, this is an elegant cabernet with enough flavour and perfume to conceal a trace of under-ripeness. Its meaty, rather jammy bouquet of small dark berries, plums and cedar/chocolate oak is lifted by a whiff of violet and mint. Finely crafted over some tight, crunchy tannin, itÕs long and bright, with true intensity and purity of lingering minty flavour.
A deep, dark and finely balanced cabernet in a riper style with plenty of flavour evolution on the vine. ItÕs fragrant and earthy, with bright, briary aromas of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and chocolate/cedary oak backed by nuances of mint and dried herbs. Long and smooth, deeply flavoured and fine-grained, its dark layers of fruit and extract finish slightly gamey and quite savoury, with lingering meaty and faintly herbal notes.
Youthful and elemental, with a sweet bouquet of black berries, cassis and chocolatey oak revealing nuances of spice and raisins. ItÕs moderately long and polished, with a smooth, elegant presence of dark berries and plums, cedar/chocolatey oak and herbal notes supported by a fine, firmish spine. Just lacks the length of fruit for a higher rating.
