Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2002
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A near-perfect Eden Valley shiraz whose deep scents of violets, cassis, cherries, mulberries and ripe plums overlie sweet cedar/vanilla/coconut ice-like oak, pepper, musky spice and nuances of undergrowth. It’s supremely smooth and unctuous, presenting an intense, long and vibrant core of dark berry/plum fruit with a slightly wild and briary aspect. Underpinned by classically fine and powdery tannin, it finishes with lingering fruit and licorice-like influences. Artfully balanced and integrated.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2003
    Jeremy’s score 86/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Already browning, with meaty, dehydrated and herbal tea tin-like aromas of currants, raisins and tobacco. Thick and porty, from apparently very stressed fruit, its powerful, meaty and slightly hollow palate delivers of dark plum and blackberry flavour, developing more fruit richness in the glass. It lacks great length, finishing edgy and metallic, with a sappy greenness.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2004
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Pungent, meaty and reductive, this sumptuously flavoured, fine-grained shiraz of full to medium weight steadily unfolds its layers of exotic, musky, dark-fruited perfume of briar and woodsmoke and sweet leather, and a sumptuous expression of spicy, slightly sour-edged fruit tightly knit with fine, powdery tannins and generous new smoky, caramel-like oak. Dripping with black plums and berries, it finishes with nuances of star anise and cloves. With time it has evolved notes of bitumen and baked earth, but retains a seamless balance.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2005
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Charmingly ripe, with a heady, lightly peppery bouquet of blueberries, cranberries, cassis and blackberries coupled with cedar/vanilla oak, itÕs backed by nuances of dark chocolate and a suggestion of raisins. Smooth and polished, its luscious presence of plush dark fruits and vanilla/coconut oak eases into a velvet-like undercarriage of pliant tannin. It finishes just a little angular, with a lingering raisined note, and just needs to be zipped up tight again.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2006
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very stylish, smooth and seamless, with a rather closed but assertive bouquet whose minty dark fruit aromas are lifted by wild, floral notes, coupled with assertive, pencil shavings French oak and backed by musky, spicy and meaty undertones. Underpinned by firm, but supple, dusty tannin and knit with fine-grained, chocolatey oak, itÕs dripping with concentrated flavours of blackberries, red cherries, cassis and blueberries, with a meaty, mineral underswell of complexity. It finishes long and vibrant, with suggestions of animal hide and cracked pepper.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2007
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Scented with exotic, briary and peppery aromas of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and mulberries, itÕs handsomely cloaked in smoky chocolate/vanilla oak and lifted by a whiff of cinnamon, clove and marsala-like spices. Fullish to medium in weight, itÕs steeped in rich, juicy flavours of small black, blue and red berries, dark plums framed by supple, velvety tannins, extending towards an exceptionally long and measured finish. A hint of currant provides the merest suggestion of overripeness, but this is a long-term wine of true class and an excellent outcome from this hot vintage.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2008
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A stylish, regional shiraz of genuine concentration and balance. Steeped in ripe aromas of blackberries, cassis, mulberries and dark plums knit with sweet cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak, itÕs backed by briary nuances of dried herbs and white pepper. Its sumptuous, deeply layered palate of dense dark berry/plum fruit, sweet oak and pliant al dente tannin finishes with exceptional length and intensity, but remains evenly paced and measured. Marginally ripe and jammy, at the cost of some shape and definition, for an even higher rating.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2009
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Ultra-smooth, this deeply flavoured, full to medium-bodied shiraz has a pungent, meaty and briary bouquet whose jujube-like aromas of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and mulberries are laced with exotic cinnamon-like spices and dark pepper, with undertones of sweet cedar/vanilla oak, raisins and underbrush. ItÕs long and very sweetly fruited, almost syrupy, with an plush, deeply ripened presence of small dark berries, plums and a hint of raisins supported by a dusty spine of powdery tannins and sweet, gamey vanilla oak. ItÕs delightful, but perhaps not for the very long term.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2010
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Elegant medium to full-bodied, long and fine-grained, this is classic HOG. Lifted by sweet violet-like scents, its intense, peppery aromas of cassis, blackberries, dark plums and mulberries knit with assertive smoky, cedary and chocolatey oak, revealing faintly meaty, mineral undertones. Dripping with penetrative flavours of small dark berries and plums supported by fractionally intrusive oak, itÕs wild and briary, earthy and meaty, extending long and fine-grained, smooth and sumptuous down a spine of fine chalky tannins. It finishes with exceptional intensity and persistence, mineral and savoury qualities, plus a perfectly balanced acidity.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2012
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

The most polished wine under this label for more than a decade is pristine, pure and finely crafted, medium in weight and superbly supported by a drying, dusty spine. Deep aromas of blood plums, redcurrant, cola and creamy vanilla oak are backed by nuances of dark chocolate, musky spices, dried herbs and white pepper, becoming more floral with aeration. Long and artfully balanced, itÕs vibrant, willowy and spotlessly clean, delivering an evenly ripened core of flavour that becomes firmer, more crunchy and darkly fruited towards its finish of mouthwatering acidity. Exceptional.

Ethereal, spicy and floral; deep flavours of mulberries, cassis, dark plums and cedary oak; long and firmish, savoury and leathery, with pliant but bony tannins and chocolatey undertones. Great drive and length.

Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2014
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Concentrated and densely packed, this sumptuous, assertive shiraz unfolds a powerful core of latent strength but also some profoundly ripened characters. Its meaty bouquet of cassis, mulberries, prunes and currants, dusty cedary oak and five spice reveals nuances of dried herbs. Long and complete, with an unctuous, velvety palate underpinned by firmish, gravelly tannins, itÕs densely packed, smooth and impactful. Some currant-like nuances suggest an extended hang time for part of the fruit.
