Fine-grained, earthy and elegant, this restrained, musky and spicy wine has a creamy, supple palate with cedar and earthy qualities. Marginally short on the palate.
Marvellously pungent and complex, with an earthy, leathery bouquet of sweet rose petals and tar before a long, lively palate of ripe plummy fruit, cedar and chocolate oak, finishing with firm, fine tannins.
A lighter, sweeter, slightly greenish and jammy wine with ripe, brambly fruit, sappy oak influence and supple, soft tannins.
Supple and elegant, with the sweet but intense mulberry, cassis and grassy/confection flavours of a cooler ferment. A simple, under-developed product of its era.
Stewy, brackish, and lacking length, now breaking up. Another product of its age.
Greenish, spicy, and lightly peppery, this lighter-bodied and more elegant style reveals sweet mulberry and cassis fruit, vanilla oak and fine, balanced tannins.
Varnishy, sweet and sappy, this atypical and very oaky wine has a good concentration of sweet, ripe fruit, but finishes a little hard and tough.
Sweet red berry and cool peppery fruit is overawed by new vanilla oak. Thickly coated with firm, chunky tannins, the palate simply lacks richness and grunt in the fruit department.
Weighty, generous and complex, showing developed earthy, musky, truffly and floral complexity with sweet cassis and plum fruit. A rich, restrained core of ripe plums and small wild berries is offset with cedary vanilla oak and thick tannins.
Classy, aristocratic shiraz with weight and bearing and an opulent, heady perfume of mature, spicy fruit. Its superb length of brilliantly intense, vibrant fruit is harmoniously integrated with ripe, fine-grained tannins.
Green-edged and somewhat sweet and jammy, but an enormous surprise given its vintage. A pungent nose of squashed fruits, cassis and violets precedes a plump, fleshy palate.
Classically restrained, elegant and sophisticated, with marvellous length of pristine, sweet dark berry/cherry shiraz and fine-grained tannins. Musky and spicy, harmonious and integrated.
