Nutty aromas of citrus, green cashews, light vanilla oak and creamy lees-derived influences precede a palate that begins with some forward richness and fattiness, but then fades towards a lean finish enlivened by lemon/vanilla oak.
Generously flavoured with a slightly minerally expression of grapefruit, honeydew melon and stonefruit, this round and juicy chardonnay shows an improved measure of oak integration and balance over previous Henschke chardonnays. There’s some creamy, dusty and smoky complexity and some buttery oak beneath its ripe aromas, while the rich, barrel-fermented palate culminates in a lingering, nutty and savoury finish with a persistent core of limey fruit. Wrapped in soft acids, it’s a fraction spirity and lacks the complexity for a higher rating.
Squeaky clean but rather oaky, initially with a slightly hollow expression of peach and melon flavour somewhat overwhelmed by nutty, vanilla and smoky oak. With time the fruit has fleshed out, but the wine is essentially quite simple and brassy.
A fresh and focused chardonnay whose light aromas of white peach, apricot and cashew reveal undertones of clove, vanilla and slightly dusty oak. ItÕs restrained and elegant, with a pleasing length of tangy fruit and crisp acidity that finishes with just a hint of greenish fruit and a slightly raw edge. Likely to flesh out with time, it should retain its brightness and delicacy.
A stylish, youthful wine of genuine regionality. Dusted with spicy notes of cloves and cinnamon, its waxy bouquet of apple, peach and pear reveals nuances of wheatmeal, white flowers, grilled nuts and custard. Long and elegant, its gentle, supple and savoury palate of restrained but brightly lit fruit is punctuated by soft, lively acids and a lingering hint of oak.
A modern chardonnay with a softness and a smooth, oakiness but an ultra-light presence of melon and cashew-like fruit. Lean and polished, with spicy clove/vanilla oak and creamy leesy undertones, itÕs very shy and ethereal, lacking sufficient emphasis and expression of flavour for a higher rating.
Stylish and contemporary, with a lightly waxy bouquet of peach, melon and grapefruit with restrained vanilla oak lifted by an alluring note of white flowers. ItÕs smooth and gentle, long and elegant, with a persistent, creamy core of melon, peach and custard-like regional chardonnay flavour wrapped up and focused by a fresh, racy acidity. It has the length and balance to cellar well.
A more powerful, riper and textured expression of this wine whose juicy peach, grapefruit and melon-like fruit has a finely tuned supporting cast of tightly knit vanilla oak ands winemaking complexity. ThereÕs a hint of custard, clove and waxiness beneath its sweet fragrance of brightly lit fruit, while its generous, creamy palate is still quite broad and phenolic. Time should see it settle down with more depth and balance.
A little shy but likely to flesh out well, this medium-weight chardonnay has a floral, faintly herbal and creamy bouquet of citrus and tropical fruit, apple and pear with undertones of biscuity vanilla oak. Smooth and creamy, its restrained flavours of peach, pear and apple are evenly balanced with reserved buttery oak and nuances of cinnamon and clove. It finishes long and focused, with refreshing acids and a lingering hint of nougat.
Stylish and contemporary, with a spicy and freshly oaked bouquet of white peach, melon and pear backed by toasty vanilla cooperage aromas. Spotless and regimented, its fluffy core of peach, apple and pear flavour knits with nutty yeast-derived characters, moving with smoothness and length towards a very clean and gentle finish.
