Very firm, structured cabernet of refinement and balance. Its earthy fragrance of violets and rose petals, cassis, plums and blackberries overlies tightly integrated cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak and scents of dried herbs. Robust and linear, it delivers piercing, penetrative flavours of dark berries and plums over astringent, bony tannins. Wait for it.
Firm and structured, this long-term central Victorian red has a minty perfume of violets and cassis over smoky undertones of cedar/vanilla oak and a whiff of menthol. Earthy and leathery, its minty dark plum and berry flavours are framed by a bony spine of drying tannins. Pleasing length and brightness.
A traditional Bendigo cabernet of tremendous depth, ripeness and regional intensity. Scented with spicy, menthol-like aromas of cassis, dark plums and sweet oak, it reveals floral, violet-like undertones. Firm and fine-grained, its profound expression of ripe, slightly jammy red and black berry/plum fruit is framed by firm, fine tannins and finishes with minty suggestions of eucalypt. Modestly alcoholic, given its richness and ripeness.
A fine piece of winemaking has developed a powerful, assertive but carefully balanced red for the long haul. Scented with cassis, violets, plums and well-knit cedar/vanilla oak, its sumptuous palate is coated with a drying, chalky astringency. There’s just a hint of currant and meatiness beneath its richly ripened dark berry and plum-like fruit, while its substantial oak treatment is simply soaked up.
Firm and fine-grained, this marginally overcooked and rather meaty cabernet is surprisingly elegant and supple. Its leathery fragrance of berries, plums and earthy undertones precede a long, slightly raisined palate whose fruit and oak are carefully knit with tight, powdery and astringent tannins.
Marrying elegance with structure, this finely balanced cabernet has a dusty, faintly floral but still quite closed fragrance of small red and black berries, polished cedary oak, dried herbs and baked earth. Underpinned by a tightly integrated spine of powdery, drying tannins, its plush and deeply flavoured palate of small berries, dark plums and chocolatey oak culminates in an earthy, faintly meaty and savoury finish, leaving lingering notes of mint and menthol.
Charmingly fragrant and superbly balanced, this gentle and deeply flavoured cabernet reveals an earthy, stony bouquet of cranberries, cedar and sweet, restrained floral notes with undertones of dried herbs. Underpinned by fine, drying tannins, its smooth, polished, complex and elegant palate of small black and red berry flavour knits with cedar/dark chocolate oak, extending with pleasing length and balance. Tasted at eleven years of age, it was principally sourced from the legendry 1969 old vine plantings at Balgownie.
Long and gravelly; faintly herbal, minty aromas of cassis, mulberries, dark plums and cedar/vanilla oak; luscious and pastille-like, smooth and savoury.
