    Hardys Eileen Hardy Chardonnay 1997

Cleverly made, very complex and heavily worked, this is a very good, viscous and creamy chardonnay whose tobaccoey fruit qualities of melon, peach, cumquat, grilled nuts and grapefruit are deftly knit with smoky matchstick oak in a broad, forward wine whose only deficiency might be whether or not it has the length of fruit to support its treatment.

Large Australian wineries are learning fast about chardonnay on the wild side, as this rather pungent and smoky, funky and mealy expression of leesy, minerally wine reveals. ItÕs the sort of wine youÕd more expect from a small vineyard, with pungent, spicy and smoky oak which works very harmoniously with its restrained palate of bright, lingering citrus, tropical and stonefruit flavours.

    Hardys Eileen Hardy Chardonnay 1999
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Silky, smooth, yet as bright as a spotlight, this restrained, complex young chardonnay presents a near-perfect balance between pristine tropical and citrus fruit flavour with the full spectrum of winemaking artefact in a way that is natural and easy to handle. It’s creamy yet fine, with an incredible length of fruit and a clear, tangy finish of mineral acids. Yattarna has a worthy rival.

Stylish Macon-like chardonnay of texture and balance. Delicate aromas of lemon rind, honeysuckle, grilled nuts and cloves, backed by toast, butter and grilled nuts. Long, fine and succulent, with a tightly focused baby-fat palate bursting with mango, melon, grapefruit and papaya flavours and neatly wrapped in racy acids. Wonderful length, freshness and shape.

Very delicate, austere and chalky chardonnay whose pristine nutty, citrus-like fruit is presented along a fine, taut and mineral palate, finishing long, savoury and tightly focused.

    Hardys Eileen Hardy Chardonnay 2002
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very well made, fine and austere, this multi-regional blend has a creamy fragrance of lemon meringue, grapefruit and melon with bacony and vanilla undertones. Built around a vibrant and concentrated core of citrusy fruit, it’s long and tangy, with a fine-grained, chalky mouthfeel and plenty of racy acidity. There’s just a hint of metallic greenness at the finish, but this is otherwise an excellent wine.
