A powerful, structural, textural right bank Bordeaux style with an astringent grip, texture, power and length. Dark plums, cherries, cassis and redcurrants are integrated with cedar/dark chocolate oak, with a hint of cigarbox beneath. Quite a sleeper, it’s still looking very young, and could use plenty more time. There’s just a hint of mint and menthol, but they are likely to diminish as it ages. Extraordinary value for a wine of this maturity.
A very good wine that is just a shade angular for an even higher rating. Scented with white flowers, pear and apple backed by nuances of lemon pith, lime juice and wet slate, itÕs moderately intense, marginally sweet and finely chalky. It delivers a long, crystalline presence of fruit, finishing with a lingering core of flavour, obvious sweetness and taut, lemony acids.
Exhibiting a crisp balance between its light sweetness and citrusy acids, itÕs long and elegant. Scented with nuances of pear, apple and white peach backed by a hit of talcum powder, it delivers a translucent, almost crystalline depth of fruit underpinned by a fine slatey backbone.
Pure and finely balanced, with a light perfume of pear, apple and a hint of black tea. ItÕs long and elegant, with a gentle presence of fresh pear and apple flavour supported by a fine chalkiness, extending long and even towards a tangy, refreshing and faintly spicy finish.
Marginally off-dry, with deliciously pure flavours of pear, apple, peach and lemon, itÕs scented with fresh white flowers and suggestions of minerals. Long, gentle and faintly chalky, its reserved core of persistent flavour finishes with a measured sweetness and balance. The finest yet under this label.
Balanced by crisp lemony acidity, itÕs long and citrusy, revealing intense lime juice, peach and nectarine backed by a hint of lemon nuttier. Tangy, citrusy and faintly mineral, it finishes with pleasing length and focus.
Pristine, fresh and juicy, with a faintly tropical bouquet of green apple, lime juice and white flowers. ItÕs round and juicy, with a generous expression of brightly lit, vivacious fruit underpinned by a fine dustiness that extends long and measured towards a refreshing but off-dry finish wrapped in lemony acidity. Artfully balanced, but could have used more texture.
Perhaps AustraliaÕs driest off-dry riesling, it unfolds a pleasing if rather simple bouquet of citrus, stonefruit and apple blossom. Round and juicy, becoming quite broad and oily down the palate, it becomes more mineral and slatey down the palate, culminating in a savoury and quite textural finish of modest sweetness.
