A finely crafted pinot from fruit whose rather broad range of ripeness is reflected in its greenish and vegetal notes, its currant-like undertones and its presence of juicy raspberry and cherry flavours. Handsomely knit with sweet, polished vanilla oak and underpinned by a fine-grained extract, it also reveals suggestions of cloves and cinnamon and meaty undertones, before a slightly green-edged finish.

Subdued and slow to emerge, with a meaty, musky bouquet whose slightly spirity perfume of red berries and plums, rose petals and fresh cedar/vanilla oak reveal nuances of citrus fruits, autumn leaves and meaty, stalky undertones. Supported by a fine, firmish chassis, itÕs moderately long, with marginally green-edged fruits that steadily reveal more sweetness and richness, before finishing with notes of ripe figs.

Giaconda Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Reminiscent of the Giaconda pinots of the late 1980s, this long and deeply flavoured wine brings structure and balance, plus the expectation of evolved complexity. ItÕs meaty and quite woolly, with a reductive, lanolin-like bouquet of red cherries, berries, cloves and cinnamon backed by dusty spices. Medium to full-bodied, with a long, generous presence of sweet red cherries and berries, blackberries and fine-grained oak, it finishes quite dry, with lingering savoury, spicy and meaty aspects.

    Rated 0 out of 5

Artfully balanced and focused, this exceptional pinot reveals a deeply floral and earthy bouquet whose heady perfume of dark cherries, plums and charcuterie meats undertones reveals cranberry-like nuances. ItÕs long and elegant, with a fine, bony undercarriage of firmish tannins and some very smart new fine-grained oak beneath its briary and finely integrated flavours of plums, cherries and berries. It culminates in a drying, slatey and savoury finish of exceptional persistence and tightly knit acidity.

Giaconda Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A supple and fine-grained pinot whose heady, floral perfume of red flowers, red cherries and berries has a dusty, cedary oak-derived note, a hint of musky spice, nuances of dried herbs and a note of Sicilian blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, itÕs long and elegant, with translucently clear core of cherry, plum and berry flavours and tight-knit crunchy tannins backed by a faint meatiness, a hint of clove and fennel. ItÕs likely to build substantial richness before then becoming finer and more savoury as it matures. Reminiscent of the stellar 1989 edition.

Giaconda Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Fragrant aromas of dark cherries, raspberries and smoky oak with undertones of cinnamon, smoked meats and dusty, herbal whole bunch influences precede a long, sumptuous palate underpinned by a genuine, kernelly structure. Its deep expression of dark cherries, raspberries and herbal notes extends with assertive new oak influences down a long, fine and supple palate towards quite an earthy, savoury finish wrapped in mouthwatering acids. It marries the power of the 1992 vintage with the elegance of the 1989, with an extra dash of new oak. It would be rated even higher if had a greater length of fruit and if its stalk-derived influences had been toned down a fraction.

Long and layered, slowly unfolding earthy, meaty scents of small berries, citrus oil, sweet cherries and underbrush. Becoming smooth and velvety, its evolving palate effortlessly combines small berry, plum and cherry flavours with tight-grained polished oak and slatey tannins, finishing with drive, balance and a savoury aspect. It’s acquiring plenty of meaty, leathery complexity.

Giaconda Estate Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Alluring and heady, floral and spicy, its musky bouquet of red rose petals, red cherries and raspberries reveals suggestions of citrus oil and dried herbs, becoming more opulent and heady with aeration. Medium in weight, but certain to build, its deep layers of brightly lit red fruits and measured oak overlie a firmish spine of dusty tannin that will become more assertive over time. ItÕs unctuous and fleshy, but becomes more restrained and textural as it moves towards a musky, savoury finish. Reminiscent of the classic Giaconda pinots of 1988 and 1991.
