    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2002

Sumptuous and seamless, perhaps revealing less artefact and more fruit purity than the signature 1996 vintage, but it looks capable of attaining similar complexity with bottle-age. Beneath fresh melon and stonefruit flavours, nutty and oatmeal-like influences lie suggestions of earth and mineral, while the palate’s succulent baby fat texture culminates in a lingering, dry and savoury. Should develop classically.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2004
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Stylistically, perhaps, this wine has more to do with Puligny than the more Meursault-like vintages of the past. Its lightly smoky and floral aromas of grapefruit and lemon rind, honeysuckle and nougat reveal mineral undertones of wet stones and meaty suggestions of leesy complexity. Typically concentrated, long, creamy and effortlessly smooth, the elegant and almost fluffy palate delivers deep flavours of peach, nectarine, melon and grapefruit with a slightly brassy and candied aspect. It finishes long, savoury and harmonious, with perhaps a shade more development than expected.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2005
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A typically complex but possibly quite evolved chardonnay with a very developed colour and a smoky, mineral and reductive bouquet of charcuterie, matchstick, honeydew melon and lime. It’s unctuous and richly fruited, with deep, lingering flavours of grapefruit, melon and cumquat backed by suggestions of smoked ham and bacon, finishing long and tangy, with lime juice and lemony acids.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2006

Handsome, savoury and seamlessly structured, with a smoky fragrance of melon, peach and grapefruit, plus undertones of sherbet, minerals, matchstick and wheatmeal. ThereÕs also a floral, lanolin-like waxiness that adds to its complexity. Medium to full in weight, with sumptuous, concentrated fruit, it marries a richness and fattiness of texture with an elegance and fineness. It finishes long and persistent, with bright crystalline acids and lingering notes of hazelnuts, smoked hams and nougat.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2008
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Sumptuous, seamless and luscious, with exceptional concentration and balance. A spicy, heady bouquet of melon, lime juice, pithy grapefruit scents, nougat and cinnamon overlies a complex spectrum of lemon candy, mineral, smoked bacon, wheatmeal and wet slate aromas. ItÕs unctuous and creamy, with deep layers of fruit, ginger-like spice and clove and vanilla oak underpinned by a fine chalkiness, ultimately culminating in a focused, briny and mineral finish.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2010
    Jeremy’s score 98/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

An essay in restrained power and balance. Scented with a complex bouquet of grapefruit, melon, lemon meringue, lime juice and yellow peach knit with smoky, matchstick-like oak, itÕs backed by creamy, nougat-like notes of ginger and cinnamon plus an assertive minerality. Smooth and gentle despite its dense core of citrus/melon flavour, itÕs sumptuous and fatty but tightens with precision and focus towards a lingering mealy, briny and savoury finish of fresh, tightly balanced acidity. Underpinned by a fine chalkiness, itÕs stylistically located somewhere between the 1995 and 1996 vintages, with something extra.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2011
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Perhaps lacking the sumptuous length of the 2010 vintage, this is nevertheless a remarkable chardonnay whose pungent, smoky bouquet of grapefruit, melon and white peach is underpinned by creamy, nougat-like leesy notes, matchstick oak and a pungent minerality. Long and refined, with pleasing length and balance, itÕs succulent and complex, with an assertive presence of rich fruit that moves easily down the palate towards a smoky, slightly briny finish of complex reductive notes and a slightly edgy acidity. It will mature beautifully.

    Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay 2012
    Jeremy’s score 97/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

This sumptuous but evenly balanced chardonnay unfolds a complex, smoky bouquet whose fresh grapefruit, melon and white peach-like aromas are tightly knit with scents of matchstick and mineral, smoked meats and buttery, nougat-like vanilla oak backed by suggestions of musk, cinnamon and rose water. ItÕs long and lustrous, with sappy, mouthwatering flavours of melon, lemon and grapefruit oil seamlessly integrated into a unctuous but tightly focused palate that finishes with a gentle, soft acidity. It might lack the raw emphasis of recent vintages, but is clearly from the same site and is almost certain to develop more strength and character.
