d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 1998
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Delicate constitutions beware this massively concentrated, deep, dark and brooding red of great length, strength and intensity. Its inky aromas of dark plums and olives, cassis and smoky chocolate oak are enhanced by attractive hints of clove and nutmeg, while its many layers of extract and fruit are simply going to take years to open fully.

Meaty, briary and slightly cooked aromas of licorice, plums, prune and bitumen, with hints of cloves, fine tea leaves and cassis. Ripe and voluptuous, long and brooding, with an evolving and leathery expression of spicy, concentrated fruit married to robust, savoury and assertive tannins. Will develop well.

    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A more elegant, controlled and tightly focused Dead Arm with pleasing fruit and balance, but an unmistakable thread of herbaceousness beneath. Its spicy and lightly smoky fragrance of cassis, blackberries, violets and raspberries is offset by creamy vanilla oak. Silky smooth and velvet-like, its very measured palate of vibrant small black and red berries, licorice and spice culminates in a long, rather minty, eucalypt-like and herbal finish.

d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2003
    Jeremy’s score 92/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A dark, closed and brooding shiraz; a genuine iron fist in a velvet glove. Its meaty, spicy expression of vibrant plum, blackcurrant and blackberry flavour is backed by chocolatey oak and framed by a firm but pliant grip of assertive, bony tannin. It’s evenly balanced, finishing long and savoury with a persistent core of fruit and undertones of coach leather. Should evolve considerably.

d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2004
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

The finest Dead Arm ever made has a smoky, ethereal and spicy bouquet of slightly meaty dark plums and berries scented with violets, licorice and black pepper, cloves and cinnamon. Smooth and sumptuous, its powerful and searingly intense palate of black berry fruit has a salty/mineral edge and a sophisticated marriage with new oak. Despite its intense fruit sweetness, the wine finishes long and savoury, with lingering sour edges, terrific acids and overall balance. A traditional wine, with cut and polish.

  • d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2005
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5
    $120.00

Pungent and powerful, this rich and very ripe shiraz is presently slightly raw-edged, but should become more polished with time. Its briary, meaty aromas of blackberry, currant and plum-like fruit are backed by sweet cedary oak. Framed by firm, dusty tannins and supported by carefully handled oak, its substantial and persistent palate delivers a powerful after-burn of fruit richness. Will cellar well for a 2005.

    Jeremy’s score 95/100

Fine-grained, balanced and savoury, this warm but not overcooked shiraz builds towards a powerful crescendo of flavour. Its deep aromas of bloody red fruits, currants, plums and berries are backed by slightly meaty cedar/vanilla oak and undertones of licorice, cloves and white pepper. ItÕs long, smooth and luscious, with a deep presence of sour-edged black and red fruits and star anise underpinned by smooth, satiny tannins. It finishes long and savoury, with an hint of saltiness.

d’Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2007
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Brooding, dark and powerful, this rather closed young red will take tome to unfold its layers of deep, dark plums and berries, its meaty, chocolatey complexity and its seasoned, cedary oak. Scented with pepper and spice, itÕs alluring and smoky, with a long, palate-staining fruitfulness, a very firm, fine-grained undercarriage, a savoury finish and a deep, intriguing minerality.

    Jeremy’s score 92/100

A very different wine Ð an elegant, concentrated, rustic and old-fashioned shiraz with farmyard-like complexity. Meaty, reductive aromas of dense blackberry fruit backed up by a strong presence of dark chocolate, dark olives, dusty cinnamon-like spices are lifted by a floral perfume, while its moderately long, smooth palate is layered and deeply flavoured, finishing firm but pliant with tarry notes of prunes and currants, a salty, savoury aspect and a black jelly bean note.

Rustic, wild and assertive, with a pungent, meaty bouquet of dark plums, blackberries and cassis backed by musky undertones of briar, blueberries and faintly smoky chocolatey and meaty oak. Dark and reductive, itÕs sumptuously concentrated, with deeply ripened flavours of dark fruits knit with mocha/chocolate oak and supported by fine, powdery, slatey tannins. It finishes with length and minerality.
