Fine, savoury and restrained, with a scent of red flowers, baked earth and redcurrants backed by nuances of blackberries, prunes, fresh spices and bitumen. Long and juicy, medium in weight, its fresh dark fruit knits tightly with a fine mouthwatering astringency, finishing with a racy acidity.
A deeply layered and charmingly complex older styled red with a briary, rustic and faintly meaty bouquet of blackberries, blueberries and dark plums backed by nuances of licorice, five spice, cedar and vanilla. Medium to full-bodied, with a luscious depth of dark plums, berries and briary, meaty, chocolatey influences, itÕs supported by a slightly immature extract of pliant tannins will certainly settle down with time.
Traditional leathery and earthy red, stuffed with ripe cassis fruit and offering a sumptuous, velvet-smooth mouthful of plum and prune flavours all the way along its firm, generous palate. One of the better 1997 reds from McLaren Vale.
A big, powerful wine of considerable class, it’s dark and inky, with deeply scented aromas of wild briary cassis and plums, and lightly smoky/cedary vanilla oak. Hugely extracted and massively concentrated, its flavours are deep and almost impenetrable opening up layer by layer.
Bright and floral, perfumed with violets, blackcurrants and plums, with an earthy underswell of leathery cedar and licorice aromas. Dark and pure, vibrant and minty, it’s a firm and well-ripened cabernet of poise and tautness, without a hint of overripeness. One of the best from the vintage.
Earthy, chocolate-like aromas of small dark berries and dark olives with dusty, leafy cabernet qualities. Brooding, black-fruited palate whose juicy cassis/plum flavours are framed by sinewy tannins, completing a long, balanced and astringent palate. True cellar style.
A cooler year warm climate cabernet whose wild and briary fragrance of mulberries, cassis and plums reveals a hint of leafiness and sweet vanilla/cedar oak. Smooth, supple and fleshy, its sweet core of vibrant dark berry/plum cabernet flavour is enhanced by a suggestion of dark olive and framed by a firm and balanced spine of fine-grained bony tannins. With more fruit sweetness than customary from this maker, it’s tightly knit and surprisingly elegant.
A very well balanced and composed, but distinctively assertive cabernet. Its floral aromas of violets, dark plums, blackcurrants and dark olives are backed by dark chocolate, cedary oak and suggestions of mint. Smooth and sumptuous, its powerful and robust palate of deep, dark berry/plum fruit is tightly knit with a firm, fine-grained astringency. It’s long, well balanced and surprisingly varietal given the hot nature of this McLaren Vale vintage.
