    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 1996
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

As fine as any chardonnay yet made at Cullen, this magnificent and complex wine is full-flavoured, yet tightly focused and harmonious. Its fragrant bouquet suggests roasted nuts and peach, while its creamy, sumptuous palate of stonefruits and matchstick-like French oak has a long mineral finish.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 1997
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

This reserved and savoury wine, whose delicate, nutty aroma of dried wild flowers, apples and dusty oak is made in a more subtle and oxidative fashion than recent vintages from Cullen. Long and leesy, its chalky mouthfeel and persistent low-cropped flavours present a classy alternative to the syrupy offerings of so many makers.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 1999
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Finely austere and more Chablis-like than previous Cullen chardonnays, its delicate and lightly smoky fragrance of wet mineral stone, lemons, pineapple and hints of tropical fruit precedes a tight, reserved palate of length and austerity. Mealy and grainy influences marry with mango and melon fruit.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2000
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Opulent, heady aromas of ripe melon and citrus are backed by smoky, buttery and vanilla oak with creamy lees influences. It’s fractionally spirity, but there’s a luxuriant, smooth texture of rare impact and power that somehow conveys an impression of tightness and elegance. Finishing long, mineral and savoury, it will develop wonderfully in the bottle.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2002
    Jeremy’s score 96/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Supremely elegant, fine and polished chardonnay with a tight-knit and grainy aroma of lemon, melon, white peach and grapefruit backed by nuances of cloves, cashew and sweet vanilla oak. Juicy and forward, its palate begins with intense, punchy flavours of pear, peach and tropical fruit, before becoming more taut and trim, culminating in a zesty lemon sherbet finish framed by very fine, chalky phenolics.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2003
    Jeremy’s score 83/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Rather varnishy and estery, with some wild and volatile influences beneath its angular expression of grapefruit, tropical fruits and stonefruit. Reveals similar issues to those associated with a stuck ferment.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2004
    Jeremy’s score 89/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Dusty, nutty and lightly juicy aromas of apricot, creme brulŽe and grapefruit overlie spicy nuances of cloves and cinnamon. Forward and candied, its crystalline expression of sugar-cured citrusy fruit thins out, lacks its customary shape, richness and structure, finishing sweet and rather cloying despite the presence of some rather tight and faintly volatile acids.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2005
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Still a little youthful and angular, this substantial and searingly intense chardonnay should settle down nicely. Slightly spirity and oaky, its intense aromas of lime juice and ruby grapefruit are backed by nuances of cloves and wheatmeal. Its sumptuous, smooth and even palate of piercing, tangy mango, melon and grapefruit flavour and assertive new oak is punctuated by rather a bracing cut of acidity. Long and dry, it simply needs time.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2006
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Lightly herbal aromas of grapefruit, paw paw, mango, peach and melon precede a moderately long and supple palate. ItÕs tropical and herbal, with a slatey undercarriage but a slightly metallic, greenish and edgy finish with a hint of sweetness. Finely crafted, but lacks genuine ripeness.

    Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay 2007
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Pushing the limits of funk and winemaker-imparted artefact, this distinctive and racy chardonnay is exceptionally taut and focused. ItÕs smoky and meaty, with layers of cumquat, grapefruit, melon and pineapple backed by an assertive, pungent presence of smoked meats, pork sausage, struck match and minerality. Its zesty, lemony acidity is initially quite confrontational, although it does ease back as the wine expands in the glass. Very long, and likely to age slowly.
