Slightly shaded aromas of leafy capsicum and violets, mulberries and blackcurrants, with suggestions of sweet cedar and vanilla oak. Firm, but rather herbaceous, long-living regional wine, very much a reflection of its time and place.
Lacking great length, but a firm elegant red of controlled power and subtlety. Earthy, meaty, cedary aromas of dried herbs and tobacco, with sweet vanilla/chocolate oak. Soft and tobaccoey, slightly sappy and vegetal, with pleasing dark berry and plum flavours wrapped around fine tannins.
Firm, fine-grained and harmonious claret of restrained power and elegance. A floral perfume of small berry fruits with dusty, cigarboxy complexity and meaty, vanilla undertones precedes a generous, cedary palate of length, strength and integration.
Scented with cedar, cigarboxes and pristine lifted small berry fruits, sweet cedar/vanilla oak and floral nuances; a supple, but sumptuous and classically proportioned cabernet. With deep fruit flavours offset by clear new oak characters, itÕs beautifully composed and silky smooth.
Robust, long living, firm and concentrated cabernet constructed around a firm spine of astringent, drying tannins. ThereÕs a herbal and floral aspect to its cedary bouquet, while its muscular palate and assertive acidity will take plenty of time to soften.
Meaty, slightly over-ripe red whose minty aromas of berries and plums overlie suggestions of cedar/vanilla oak and Bovril-like nuances. Big chocolatey palate with strength and concentrated sweet fruit, but lacking the integration and length of the better wines.
Meaty, under-ripe herbaceous, slightly hollow, hard-edged and blocky, lacking length and evenness. Firm, robust and oaky, even rather tannic, but deficient in fruit ripeness.
Jammy, varnishy and lean, with simple berry/currant fruit lacking genuine depth and structure. Quite firm, but excessively so for its lack of fruit.
An earthy, cedary fragrance of fresh flowers, polished wood and undergrowth precedes a dusty, elegant palate whose pleasingly intense forward fruit flavours integrate well with loose-knit tannins and creamy oak. Supple, willowy and restrained, with length and harmony.
Complex, cedary bouquet of small berries and undergrowth with lightly herbal edges. Creamy, almost juicy palate of pleasing intensity without great complexity, bound by typically regional loose tannins. Intact, balanced and not about to fall apart.
Earthy, slightly reductive and leathery bouquet with suggestions of violets, cassis and raspberries. Polished, smooth palate whose tannins are rather forward, firm and powdery, finishing a shade varnishy for a higher score. Lacks great complexity.
