Juicy aromas of melon, nectarine, lemon rind and sweet, buttery and smoky vanilla oak are just slightly candied, with pleasingly pungent and slightly funky undertones of wheatmeal and reduction. Ripe and juicy, the palate is rich, round and buttery. Its long and persistent core of fruit finishes with savoury, nutty complexity, a refreshing acidity but with a slightly overt spirity warmth. Pleasingly balanced and generous, with some genuine pretensions to style.
Rather broad and smoky, this viscous, oily chardonnay partners its peach, melon and green olive-like fruit with slightly raw-edged notes of cashew, vanilla and buttery oak. It should age fairly quickly.
Slightly candied, with intense lemon and melon-like fruit backed by sweet vanilla oak and waxy nuances of cashews and green olives. Initially quite concentrated and oily, it delivers a juicy palate of ripe fruit that perhaps lacks its usual structure and tightness, finishing marginally sweet-sour.
Evolving quite quickly towards an more complex and viscous style, this rather individual chardonnay has a waxy, floral and slightly meaty bouquet whose melon and citrusy fruit reveal nutty, leesy undertones. ItÕs round and generous, with a creamy, almost oily palate finishing with toasty, buttery notes and a moderate length of flavour.
An extraordinary wine from Craiglee, and light years from its traditional leaner, less overt and considerably shyer style of chardonnay that needed bottle age for complexity and character. Here we have a luscious, unctuous, concentrated and juicy wine whose spotlessly clean, pure and almost essential flavours of melon and grapefruit are supported by the finest of phenolics and extend long down the palate towards a gentle, soft and elegant finish. Knit with fresh vanilla/cashew-like oak, itÕs already remarkably smooth and approachable, but has the balance and structure to improve in the cellar.
A rich, generous and slightly oily chardonnay whose complex, faintly melon and tobaccoey aromas of peach, nectarine and ginger are backed by toasty, buttery aromas, a hint of green olive and a whiff of vanilla oak. Its tangy, faintly estery palate marries tangy, lemony and melon-like fruit with toasty oak, a light spiciness and tobacco leaf-like undertones, finishing slightly edgy.
Finely crafted and tightly balanced, this smooth and luscious chardonnay has a fresh, perfumed and sweetly oaked bouquet of melon and peach backed by notes of butter and vanilla. ItÕs round and juicy but long and shapely, with generous flavours of citrus and melon that culminate in a soft, lively and finely balanced finish.
An evenly paced, smooth and generous chardonnay likely to develop pleasing complexity with time in the bottle. Its restrained aromas of citrusy fruit, melon and olive oil overlie subtle notes of creamy vanilla oak and dried herbs. Rather plush and peachy, its round, juicy palate extends with pleasing length, richness and smoothness towards a lingering finish of soft acidity, minerals and a hint of lemon sherbet.
Yet to integrate and still quite elemental, this generous chardonnay has a delicate, floral bouquet of pear, apple and a hint of white peach harmoniously knit with creamy vanilla oak. ItÕs smooth and juicy, with a rich presence of stonefruit, pear and apple flavour backed by creamy leesy notes, older oak and wrapped in a soft acidity. It finishes with some waxy, savoury aspects.
