Excellent quaffing here, with a crowd-pleasing meaty, minty red whose forward flavours of raspberries, plums and cassis are given a hefty measure of creamy and chocolate/mocha oak. It hasn’t great length, but its fine tannins are easy to negotiate.
Wow! This will certainly change your mind about durif. Dark, spicy and peppery, it’s steeped in deep, musky aromas of dark, briary berries and plums and sweet vanilla/chocolate oak. Robust, muscular and saturated with meaty, black plum and small berry flavours and a decent measure of smoky vanilla oak, it’s framed by a firm grip of astringent, but balanced tannin. Great presence, great future.
A briary, spicy durif with an oaky, dark and spicy aromas of plums, dark currants with nutty undertones of raisins and prunes. Powerfully fruit, dark and concentrated, it drips with licorice-like flavours of dark fruit while creamy oak and smooth tannins do the rest.
Briary, meaty aromas of blackberries, blueberries, dark plums and treacle overlie nuances of bitumen, currants and raisins. Rich and forward, its modest richness of slightly cooked durif flavour thins out towards the finish, leaving the wine a little too reliant on assertive oak and firmish tannins for length down the palate.
Charry, oaky and meaty, this very forward, juicy and in-your-face durif offers a meaty dollop of dark plums, blackberries and briar backed by some pretty toasty, caramel and vanilla-like American oak. It finishes with sweet fruit and smoky oak, with a hint of spice.
Durif continues to revel in its recently adopted home of the Riverina. This example is typically firm, dark, deeply layered and earthy, delivering a powerful punch of true varietal expression. Wild and meaty, its smoky, chocolatey bouquet of blackberries and dark plums is steeped in spice. Polished and spotlessly clean, its powerful, densely packed palate of fiery, dark fruit and smoky mocha/coconut oak is framed by a firm cut of drying tannin, finishing with meaty nuances of prunes and currants. Leave it as long as you can!
