Measured, elegant and stylish, with deeply layered flavours of cassis, blackberries, dark cherries and mulberries tightly knit with polished, gamey and savoury oak and fine, silky tannin. Full to medium in weight, with a dusty, cedary and violet-like perfume backed by suggestions of dried herbs, mint and menthol, it builds surprising strength on the palate, achieving fruitcake-like intensity and richness, before finishing long and persistent. Very elegant; classical Coonawarra.
Slightly awkward and disjointed, with sweet blackberry, plum and berry fruit backed by lightly smoky vanilla oak, this medium to full-bodied cabernet should find more harmony with a little time. Its meaty and herbaceous undertones suggest slightly uneven ripening, while its tannins are presently slightly raw-edged.
A fine, supple and elegant cabernet of full to medium weight whose violet-like fragrance of cassis, raspberries and sweet cedar/vanilla oak reveals undertones of mint and dried herbs. Underpinned by fine-grained, drying tannins, its long and seamless palate marries bright cassis and blackberry flavours with restrained oak, finishing with a trace of herbaceousness.
Rather minty and raisined, with a violet-like bouquet of cassis and currants underpinned by cedar/vanilla oak. Its forward, confiture-like presence of fruit tends to lack much sweetness, finishing with baked fruit and green-rimmed tannins and sweet chocolatey oak.
Lacking a genuine core of sweetness, its minty, menthol-like and raisined expression of light, currant-like fruit is backed by cedary but cardboardy oak and framed by a sinewy, rather metallic extract.
A lean and rather sinewy cabernet whose faintly herbal bouquet of small red and black berries is backed by cedary oak. Underpinned by a drying spine of raw tannins, its relatively simple palate of red berry fruit and older oak lacks much sweetness and charm.
Stunning quality and value here – this is a classically proportioned, riper and more assertive Coonawarra cabernet that will please many long-term buyers of the species. Deep aromas of cassis, mulberries, dark plums and chocolate/cedar/vanilla oak reveal earthy and gravelly undertones plus a whiff of mint and dried herbs. Underpinned by a firm spine of drying, ferrous tannins, it delivers excellent drive, richness and power – all in balance and without any suggestion of over-ripeness.
