The best Zema shiraz yet, whose wild, briary dark cherry and blackberry fruit are penetrated by a thread of black pepper and spice. Wonderfully smooth and restrained, its intense delivery of bright, translucent fruit is tightly knit with firm, fine tannins.

  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2000
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Again, one of the most attractive Coonawarra shirazes of the season, and a delightfully spicy, floral, peppery and minty one to boot, scented with ripe raspberries, cherries and cassis and supported by sweet American oak. Laced with cloves and cinnamon, it has a fine fleshy texture and fine acids, although it lacks the length of top vintages

  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2001
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Spicy, flavoursome medium to full-bodied shiraz of uncomplicated charm and honesty. Its vibrant, minty aromas of raspberries, blackberries and red cherries are lifted by a spicy whiff of pepper and restrained use of cedar and vanilla oak. It’s quite firm, but also fleshy and supple, and opens to reveal a pleasing depth of red berry and plum flavours.

  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2002
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A spicy, white pepper fragrance of blackberries, plums, violets and light vanilla oak precedes a smooth, lively and lighter palate whose red and black berry flavours are framed by fine, but slightly sappy tannins. Finishes savoury, with some peppery complexity.

  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2003
    Jeremy’s score 86/100

    Rated 0 out of 5
  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2004
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Exemplary, elegant, deeply flavoured and finely balanced Coonawarra shiraz whose fresh spicy, peppery and violet-like aromas of cassis, cherries and violets overlie restrained nuances of cedar/vanilla oak. Its long, smooth and juicy palate of essence-like shiraz fruit is neatly supported by a fine-grained spine of tightly interwoven tannin, delivering a lingering core of flavour before a meaty, savoury finish.

  • Zema Estate Shiraz 2005
    Jeremy’s score 87/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Full to medium in weight, this rather meaty and dark-fruited shiraz is packed with brambly flavours of blackberries, blueberries and dark plums. It also reveals overripe nuances of currants, raisins and spice cake as well as under-ripened vegetal notes. Polished mocha oak smooths out the palate, but it still finishes a little short and sweet, lacking a little freshness and brightness.
