Very ripe, bordering jammy, with deep, faintly smoky, earthy and meaty aromas of dark plums, cassis and chocolatey oak. It’s smooth and moderately long but while its offers plenty of rich fruit over a drying, mineral spine, it lacks genuine fruit sweetness, freshness and core. Strangely, I found this vintage at a large local retailer and never had the chance to taste it earlier, so perhaps this is indeed its first release? If that’s the indeed the case, it’s no great addition to the history of this otherwise fabulous label.
Fragrant and herbal, sweet fiery red fruits and restrained oak with waxy, camphor-like complexity. It’s long and lean, drying out, with ethereal fruits still just hanging in, but beginning to madeirise.
Affected to an extent by cork wood aspects, itÕs wild, smoky and fiery, with some pleasing fruit and a kernelly structure culminating in a long and savoury finish.
Marginally under and overripe, lacks great complexity and perhaps a shade short, but packed full of fresh cranberry and confiture-like red and black fruits before a marginally metallic and angular finish.
Long, fine and evenly paced, complex and cigarboxy, with a pleasing length of small black and red berry flavour supported by a fine, mineral spine and backed by nuances of chocolate and a faint bitterness. Very complete and elegant.
Deep and structured, quite firm and gravelly, with an evolved, peaking presence of fiery black berry/plum fruit and tobaccoey notes underpinned by sinewy, mineral tannins.
Deeply and sweetly fruited, with pleasing cedary, leathery and faintly herbal complexity, this long and rather polished cabernet delivers a bright, generous presence of fruit supported by a fine, dusty spine. ItÕs very regional and ageworthy, with lingering suggestions of mint and pine needle.
Elegant, fine-grained and medium-bodied, with an alluring bouquet of fiery red fruits, cedar and camphor. Long and complete, with bright flavours of small red berries, cranberries and restrained oak supported by fine, dusty tannins, it finishes with herbal complexity and bright acidity. Just too varnishy for a higher rating.
Superbly balanced, mature and elegant medium-weight cabernet scented with complex, engaging aromas of piercing small fruits backed by nuances of forest floor, polished leather and meaty, animal notes. Its vibrant core of cassis, mulberry and dark plum fruit overlies a dusty, firmish spine, finishing with genuine length and balance. Classical Coonawarra cabernet.
Full and generous, but also dusty and herbal, itÕs firmish and almost extracted for its weight of fruit but slowly reveals more elegance and charm. Just lacks the genuine core and brightness of fruit for a higher rating.
Very good cabernet retaining primary black and red fruits backed by nuances of cola, earthy notes, chocolate and minerals. Long and textured, with deep cassis, blackberry and mulberry fruit, itÕs firmish and grippy but becomes finer and smoother with aeration.
Superbly complete, elegant and vibrant, with a heady, cigarboxy fragrance of bright berry/cherry fruit with earthy, chocolatey undertones. ItÕs sumptuous but ethereal and complex, with a long, polished palate of sweet fruit finely shaped by supple, polished tannins. Effortless and natural, itÕs finely balanced and lasts forever. Benchmark stuff.
