Given that it sells for just $20 from the cellar door, this is perhaps the best-value Margaret River red on the market today. It’s a very pretty, flavoursome and brightly lit young wine perfumed with vibrant floral scents of dark cherries, plums, mulberries and cassis with polished, cedary oak beneath. Supple and juicy, its vibrant palate of juicy cherry/berry fruit and dark plums knits tightly with oak and silky tannin, finishing with a lively and persistent core of flavour. It should build beautifully in the bottle. The Watsons actually have some quantity of this wine, since the make was 2,500 cases.
A brambly fragrance of sweet blackberries and plums reveals slightly gamey undertones of ripe cherry-like merlot and cedary oak. Full to medium in weight, it’s supple and silky, with a deeply flavoured palate of juicy, briary berry and plum flavours backed by cedar/vanilla oak and framed by smooth and dusty tannins.
Marginally sweet and confectionary, this bright, jammy and pastille-like cabernet blend has a violet-like scent of cassis, blackberries and cedary oak before a long, juicy and generous palate whose bright fresh flavours are underpinned y powdery tannins wrapped up with lively acids. Pleasingly regional and true to the elegant Woodlands style.
Moderately rich and elegant, this rather laid-back young blend has a dark and deeply ripened bouquet of cassis, plums and cedar/vanilla oak lifted by scents of violets and sweet red fruits. Underpinned by dusty, firm but slightly powdery tannins, its generous palate of dark berries and fine-grained oak delivers focus, depth and structure.
Lifted by sweet violet-like aromas, brightly lit scents of cassis, mulberries, dark cherries and cedar/vanilla oak with undertones of dried herbs precede a medium to full-bodied palate of length and elegance. Complemented by fresh oak, its vibrant flavours of dark berries, cherries, blackberries and plums, nuances of dried herbs and a faint meatiness are supported by firmish, dusty tannins, finishing with length and texture.
