    Jeremy’s score 87/100

Rather heavy-handed, spirity and over-ripe for this label, lacking its customary brightness and life. It’s richly endowed with thick, rather cooked and raisiny fruit, plums and currants and even a hint of fresh cassis, but is still too woody. Needs more freshness and integration.

Smooth, supple and harmoniously composed red with a perfume of ripe small cherries, plums and polished new vanilla, chocolate oak. Smooth and creamy, its smoky, earthy palate delivers pristine, bright flavours of small berry fruits tightly knit with cedary oak. Finishes long, with a fine, firm chassis of integrated tannins.

  • Wirra Wirra RSW Shiraz 2002
    Jeremy’s score 94/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A sumptuous, ripe and richly flavoured Australian shiraz without any pretence towards elegance or sophistication. Its slightly meaty aromas of ripe plums, cassis and sweet cedar/mocha/vanilla oak reveal undertones of menthol and mint. Round and juicy, its deeply layered palate presents a profound and saturating core of spicy, concentrated ripe fruit framed by firm, but fine-grained tannins. Culminating in a lingering presence of licorice and sweet fruit, it is typically assertive and well balanced. Significantly better than the previous bottle tasted of this wine.

  • Wirra Wirra RSW Shiraz 2004

A very stylish, finely honed modern shiraz whose assertive and deeply flavoured fruit is handsomely oaked and framed by firm, fine-grained tannins. Perfumed and floral, with intense small, dark berries and forthright cedary oak backed by spicy, dusty nuances of cloves and cinnamon, it’s also meaty, very slightly varnishy and scented with white pepper. Full in body, silky of texture, sumptuous of weight, it’s a luxuriant drop whose intense small berry and currant-like fruit is backed by assertive but measured chocolatey, gamey new oak and framed by firm, fine-grained tannins. There’s a salty, mineral tang at the finish, and a lingering sour-edged note to the fruit.
