A warmer vintage has produced a rather more old-fashioned expression of this wine whose dusty, briary and deeply layered expression of blackberries, dark plums is framed by a firm, drying old-school extract of genuinely grainy astringency. ItÕs scented with nuances of briar and forest floor, iodide, mint and menthol, while its powerful, linear palate delivers exceptional length and promise.
Dusty and lightly minty, its sweet, violet-like scent of cassis, blackberries and dark plums overlies a hint of cedary oak and a herbal note. Smooth and polished, its moderate length of juicy blackcurrant, mulberry, cranberry and plum-like fruit is supported by a pliant, fine-grained backbone and reveals slightly meaty, earthy malbec influences towards the finish. ItÕs marginally hollow and lacks the length of the finest vintages.
A very stylish, deeply flavoured, effortless and already very approachable blend whose heady bouquet of violets, blackcurrants, redcurrants, dark plums and blackberries are deftly backed by nuances of cola, dried herbs and cedary oak. Full to medium weight, itÕs richly fruited and deeply layered, with a fine-grained presence of dark plums, ripe berries, a vegetal hint of malbec and earthy, slightly meaty notes underpinned by a polished spine of chalky tannins, finishing with excellent length, freshness and a tightly focused acidity.
A distinctive, finely balanced and long-term classic wine whose heady, violet-like scents of red flowers, cassis, mulberries and blood plums are handsomely backed by fresh chocolate/vanilla oak, a hint of dark olive and dusty notes of dried herbs. ItÕs full-bodied and full-flavoured, with a long, palate-staining presence of dark berries and plums tightly knit with fresh cedary oak and supported by genuinely firm, fine-grained tannins, finishing with finely balanced and mouthwatering acids.
Vibrant, pastille-like and faintly sour-edged black and blue-edged fruits with measured cedar/chocolate oak backed by tight layers of fine, drying tannins. Fullish to medium in weight, with length and freshness.
