A restrained and finely presented, measured shiraz whose spicy, peppery fragrance of pristine cassis, dark plum, blackberry and mulberry fruit is supported by lightly toasty cedar/vanilla oak. Not especially complex, it offers a palate of full to medium weight and vibrant, dark-fruited and chocolate-like flavour backed by sweet oak and framed by fine, silky tannins. Long and minty, it’s polished and restrained, with undertones of forest floor.
Dusty aromas of sweet juicy small black and red berries, smoky vanilla French oak, white pepper, cloves and cinnamon precede a firm, pliant palate of length and richness. Backed by smooth, creamy oak, it is plush, fractionally meaty and currant-like, but has enough deep and bright, vibrant fruit for sound medium-term cellaring.
Very smooth and classy, with a spicy, heady perfume of cassis, iris, lavender and fine-grained cedar/chocolate/ vanilla oak backed by undertones of black pepper. Moderately rich and elegant, its intense palate of pristine, luscious berry/plum flavour and sweet oak is supported by a silky cut of fine tannin, finishing with lingering sour-edged fruit and gamey complexity.
An elegant and stylish wine that would have been even better without the sweet and spirity impact of 15% alcohol. Its deep, slightly earthy, meaty and gamey aromas of blackberries and plums are laced with black pepper, musky spices and sweet suggestions of chocolate/vanilla oak. Long, dark and savoury, its slightly sour-edged presence of dark plums and berries, smoked meats and minerals culminates in a savoury but slightly spirity and graphite-like mineral finish.
Very ripe, sumptuous and generous, but perhaps rather more vibrant if harvested earlier. ItÕs scented with violets, dark plums and cherries, plain chocolate, cinnamon and white pepper, with undertones of menthol. Quite jammy and spirity, but certainly not overcooked, it presents a pleasing length of fruit, measured fresh oak and a tightly integrated fine-grained spine of smooth tannins.
Deeply ripened and sumptuous, this sweetly oaked, plump and juicy shiraz has an intense bouquet of dark
plums and cassis, dark chocolate oak and dusty hints of dried herbs, with a hint of spirit. Its bright, forward palate of dense, brambly plum and berry flavours is underpinned by firmish, fine tannin and finely matched with fresh oak.
A ripe, deeply flavoured, medium term shiraz whose juicy aromas of cassis, raspberries, blackberries and dark plums are backed by fresh cedar/vanilla/chocolate oak and lifted by a spicy whiff of white pepper. Medium to full-bodied, itÕs marginally jammy but avoids over-ripeness, revealing a richly fruited palate of black and red berries underpinned by fine, dusty tannins and polished sweet oak. Its structure provides shape and direction.
Musky, briary aromas of small black and red berries laced with peppery notes and backed by earthy, animal hide-like complexity precede a supple, smooth palate whose vibrant core of fruit become marginally hollow and metallic towards the finish. While thereÕs an underswell of dried herbs, spice and a meaty influence, the wine might yet flesh out with time in the bottle.
Deeply fruited and flavoured, this rich, rather alcoholic Coonawarra shiraz has a spicy and powerfully ripened bouquet of cassis, blackberries, dark plus and fresh cedar/vanilla oak backed by a light meatiness and a whiff of white pepper. ItÕs juicy and luscious, saturated with an intense, plush expression of pastille-like flavour knit with a fine, loose-knit spine of firmish tannins and savoury oak, finishing with pristine, fruit sweetness. Just a little warm, jammy and spirity for a higher rating.
Already sporting plenty of meaty, rustic complexity, this wild and brambly shiraz has a briary bouquet of redcurrant, dark plums and cedar/chocolatey oak lifted by a scent of raspberries, spice and white pepper. ItÕs deliciously rich and intense, with a vibrant core of dark plum and berry fruit, spice and meaty undertones that extends over a fine, drying spine of chalky tannins towards a persistent savoury finish.
