A new Torbreck label from Eden Valley and Barossa fruit, made into a smooth, sumptuous and very drinkable wine focused around intense jujube-like black berry flavours constructed around a fine-grained spine of silky tannins. There’s some rustic, meaty, chookshed complexity about its dusty, spicy berry aromas, while its concentrated palate and savoury finish reflect a fine balance between fruit, chocolate/vanilla oak and ripe tannins.

  • Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2002
    Jeremy’s score 95/100

The second vintage of this Eden Valley-Barossa floor blend has a penetrative, almost pungent aroma of pristine, concentrated small, dark berries backed by creamy vanilla oak, with floral and spicy undertones. Soft and sumptuous, it’s velvet-smooth and alarmingly drinkable Ð a voluptuous concoction of blackberries, cherries and currants, dark chocolate and cream. It’s spicy, savoury and silky-fine, and it lingers forever. Great value.

A very drinkable, deeply flavoured and silky wine whose gamey, reductive and charcuterie-like flavours of cassis, blackberries and dark plums are backed by herbal suggestions of slightly greenish fruit as well as some slightly overcooked and meaty nuances. Its floral perfume of cracked black peppercorns, dark fruits and musky spices has an ethereal Rh™ne-like quality, while its richly fruited palate is clearly more Australian. With menthol-like undertones, its sumptuous core of concentrated fruit, molasses and crme caramel-like oak and velvet tannins finishes long and savoury. Not flawless, but delicious drinking, even now.

  • Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2006
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Very ripe and slightly porty, this rather cooked and grainy shiraz is made from what appears to be shrivelled, meaty fruit whose spicy tea tin and clove-like aromas reveal raisined, currant-like nuances. Lacking its customary charm, it is firm and chalky with a savoury, meaty finish.

  • Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2007
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A fine expression of the riper, spicier genre of shiraz that retain its deep core of fruit, length and intensity. Its meaty fruitcake aromas of plums, prunes, currants and dark chocolates are laced with nuances of cloves and cinnamon. Deep and briary, underpinned by dusty tannins, its silky palate of blackberries, cassis and dark plums, chocolatey and gamey oak is similarly spicy and peppery.

  • Torbreck The Struie Shiraz 2008
    Jeremy’s score 93/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

Typically sumptuous, ripe and sweetly fruited, with a dense, smoky and briary bouquet of dark berries and plums, newish sweet mocha-like oak and a spicy lift of cinnamon and white pepper. Underpinned by a fine, chalkiness, its long, palate-staining and concentrated presence of blueberries and dark plums is backed by meaty complexity, finishing very persistent, with a faint sweet/savoury aspect.
