A classically weighted, perfumed and structured cabernet now showing some maturity. Cedar, cigarboxy scents of mulberries, dark plums, violets and cassis reveal mineral undertones. It’s medium in weight, with a fine-grained spine of gravelly tannins that becomes more assertive with breathing, providing wonderful support for its still primary expression of surprisingly luscious and mouthfilling fruit. Extending with excellent length, drive and balance, it has plenty of time ahead.
A medium-bodied, complex and alluring Hunter classic. Musky, peppery aromas of intense small black and blue berries, faintly smoky chocolate/cedar oak reveals nuances of roasting meats and polished leather. A superlatively pure and measured palate delivers a vivacious core of fruit and leathery development that extends long and effortless down a drying spine of fine, mineral tannins towards a finish of sour cherries, licorice and mouthwatering acids. Great drinking now, but with plenty of time ahead.
Very restrained, supremely elegant, long and complete, this is an artfully balanced, long-term wine whose heady perfume of charcuterie meats, blueberries, mulberries, cranberries and redcurrants is lifted by sweet scents of red and blue flowers. Medium to fullish in weight, its briary core of vibrant fruit moves down a drying, powdery spine that becomes firmer and more mineral as it breathes, culminating in a stylish, savoury finish.
An astonishing wine that needs time to deliver its very best, this is made from bush vines in Frankland River of around 30 years of age. A profoundly deep, heady perfume of rose petals, red and black cherries, blood plums and cranberries is backed by five spice, cinnamon and a whiff of licorice. Opening out to deliver a plush round palate entirely saturated with flavour but not primary, confection-like fruit, it unfolds layers of fruit that extend down a crunchy spine towards a mouthwateringly fresh and lively finish. Flaunting its style and balance, it easily soaks up oak leaves a lingering presence of red cherries, cranberries and licorice, wrapped in refreshing acids and finishing fresh and savoury.
Complex, meaty and musky, laced with spicy aromas of dark plums, blackberries, dark cherries, dark chocolate, dark flowers and dried herbs backed by suggestions of bonfire smoke and citrus oil, it’s long, mouthfilling and gravelly. A powerful core of dark, meaty fruits knits with tannins that become more firm and mineral, finishing dry and savoury, with lingering notes of eastern spice.
Textural, savoury and smoky, this artfully made and Rhone-inspired shiraz unfolds a wild, briary bouquet of dark plums, cassis, redcurrant and blueberries deftly knit with meaty, chocolatey oak and lifted by musky floral notes and scents of eastern spice. Tightly integrated with polished oak and firm, mineral tannins, it’s medium to fullish in weight, extending long and dry towards a lingering finish of persistent fruit and charcuterie notes.
