Perhaps a little finer, leaner and more acidic than most releases under this label, here is a finely balanced, deeply flavoured and fragrant shiraz whose pristine expression of cassis, blueberries and raspberries reveals a hint of dark plum and some polished cedar/chocolate/vanilla oak. There’s a hint of mint and dried herbs reflective of the cooler 2021 season. With a very fine spine of pliant and faintly mineral tannins, there’s plenty of structure for it to develop with style over the medium term.
With a perfume of dark berries laced with cracked pepper and underpinned by gentle oak, this Bendigo shiraz is fullish to medium in weight with a brightly lit, translucently clear core of dark plum and berry fruit supported by a firmish spine of crunchy tannins. It’s long and evenly paced, delivering a more linear and gentle expression of fruit and chocolatey oak than found from warmer years. It’s fresh, persistent and wrapped in a vibrant acidity.
Minty, herbal and dusty aromas of small black and red berries, cedar/vanilla oak, over herbal, menthol-like undertones. Smooth, soft and integrated, with slightly confectionary blackberry, dark cherry and raspberry fruit overlying nuances of herbs and sweet oak. Good tightness and balance.
While there’s a distinctively grassy and greenish, almost geranium-like aspect about this wine’s intense cassis and mulberry aromas, the palate reveals more ripeness and structure. A pleasing expression of dark cherry merlot adds flesh and richness, while the tannins remain slightly sappy and the oak a little cardboady.
Effortlessly natural and stable, this fine, elegant and very varietal cabernet has a dusty, lightly herbal fragrance of cassis, blackberries and dark plums backed by fresh cedary oak and undertones of violets, mint and menthol. Smooth and elegant, its tightly focused fruit, oak and silky tannins culminate in a charming and vibrant finish.
Rather simple at present, this fine effort from a hot year should flesh out well in the bottle. Its meaty, earthy flavours of plums, blackberries and currants and slightly overt vanilla/cedar/dark chocolate oak reveal minty, iodide-like undertones. It’s smooth but assertively structured, with layers of persistent black-fruited flavour and assertive oak finishing with length and polish.
Firm, ripe and approachable, this minty young blend marries bright flavours of cassis and dark plums with cedar/vanilla/chocolate oak and a crunchy extract of fine tannin. Quite long and vibrant, it delivers a genuine structure and regional menthol-like character.
