A complete complex cellaring pinot whose smoky but slightly closed bouquet of black and red cherries is lifted by alluring aromas of red and blue flowers Its long and supple with a gentle but emphatic core of blue and red fruits extending long and stylish over a fine mineral and slatey spine towards a lingering and savoury finish of smoky oak vibrant fruit dried herbal notes and licorice
It takes time after opening for this gentle deeply layered pinot to reveal its true depth of fruit Sweetly oaked its smoky rather herbal bouquet of cherries dark berries and cola overlies nuances of bacon candied citrus and an earthy note Its supple and sappy with a lively juicy pastille-like presence of red cherries cola and citrus zest supported by a fine dusty spine and finished with a gentle acidity There are some herbal edges but the wines core of fruit should steadily evolve and expand
Distinctively mineral and textured this gentle and complete pinot is certain to build more weight and texture with age Delicate aromas of flowers small berries and cherries subtle oak and five spice are underpinned by a pungent minerality that seamlessly supports its smooth and complete palate of pure red berries cherries and a hint of citrus oil It reminds me of some of the finer and more perfumed wines from Mount Etna

A spicy concentrated and assertive pinot with a heady floral perfume of sweet cherries plums and rose petals Smooth and supple it’s long and tightly focused revealing a slightly baked expression of sweet redcurrant fruit of exceptional concentration and some firmness Lacks the brightness and silkiness of the 2001
A measured and balanced pinot of considerable breeding Its deep complex and floral perfume of fresh cherries berries and plums reveals slightly spicy undertones of charcuterie and mocha Long smooth and silky it opens layers of lingering and vibrant cherry plum and berry-like fruit backed by suggestions of undergrowth Very fine tightly focused and measured likely to take some time to truly flourish
Deep dark and brooding this Volnay-like pinot marries its slightly meaty expression of dark cherries plums and berries with slightly funky undertones of smoked sausages and musky minty nuances Its still rather closed and bruising but has the length and strength to handle extended cellaring
Wild and briary this concentrated and deeply layered pinot has a dark and extravagant perfume of rose petals turned earth dark cherries and berries and undertones of spice Underpinned by firm sinewy tannins it opens up to reveal a luscious rather unctuous expression of dark sour-edged redcurrants and plums that should continue to flesh out with time in the bottle If finishes long and drying with a slight hint of currant
