A powerful, deeply fruited shiraz of weight, density, length and structure. Its deeply aromatic and peppery scents of black fruits, violets, dried herbs, dark chocolate, cedar/vanilla oak, musk and mint precede a substantial palate of poise and restrained power. There’s massive depth of fruit sweetness, a deep core of dark, spicy flavour and a long, fine-grained and savoury finish. Framed by silky-fine but astringent and drying tannins, it exudes strength and style.

  • Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz 2005
    Jeremy’s score 88/100

    Rated 0 out of 5

A competent, but slightly raw and awkward shiraz whose spicy, lightly smoky, musky and minty aromas of dark plums and cherries overlie a whiff of cedar/vanilla oak. Full to medium in weight, it presents a long and meaty palate whose dark flavours of blackberries, plums and blueberries are smoothed out by creamy oak, before finishing savoury and rather firmish but currant-like.

  • Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz 2009
    Jeremy’s score 91/100

Very good but too dehydrated for the longer term, this charmingly balanced and savoury shiraz has a spicy, dark and earthy bouquet of red plums, blackberries and briar knit with slightly meaty, earthy complexity and lifted by a fresh floral note. Elegant and fine-grained, supple and willowy, its pleasing weight of intense black and red berries, cassis and mulberries finishes long and smooth, but with just a lingering hint of raisins and currants.

A fuller and more savoury shiraz whose dense bouquet of cracked pepper, blackberries, cassis, blueberries and briar overlie nuances of mint and finely crafted oak. Luscious and pastille-like, its penetrative dark fruits knit smoothly with savoury oak and fine, firmish, crunchy tannins, finishing with charming persistence, balance and focus.
