Monumentally powerful and perfumed, with an extract of rare fineness. Near-perfect balance between cherry/berry/red plum fruit, assertive oak and tannins.
Evolving, earthy and gamey aromas and floral perfumes of bright red plums, raspberries and red cherries are tightly matched with cedar/vanilla oak. Supple, restrained and creamy, the palate presents bright red fruits with finely integrated drying tannins and chocolate/cedar oak. Long and elegant, finishing with meaty nuances of smallgoods and earth.
An exceptional wine offering perfectly delivered varietal fruit, richness and structure. Its fragrant perfume of black cherries, mulberries, dark plum and sweet vanilla/chocolate oak precedes a long, plush palate whose deep layers of plum and cherry fruit are framed by a super-fine extract of drying tannins. With a background of cloves and licorice, it’s remarkably fresh and vibrant, and should cellar for many years.
A pretty but essentially hollow wine whose lack of genuine density and palate weight suggests an element of overcropping. Its minty, violet-like perfume of raspberries, cherries and plums is sweetly oaked, while some hotness remains evident on its smooth but sappy palate. It’s well enough handled in the cellar.
Ripe and thickset, this rather closed and withdrawn merlot slowly reveals its not inconsiderable depth and richness. Revealing earthy, meaty and pruney complexity and tightly knit with assertive chocolate/cedar oak, its dark undercurrent of plums, berry and red cherry flavour offers pleasing length and polish, building towards a powerful finish underpinned by firm and layered fine tannins.
A very well mannered merlot of elegance and balance. Scented with violets, blackberries, mulberries and dark cherries backed by perfumed, fine-grained and nutty oak, itÕs sumptuous and smooth, with a long, creamy and oaky palate whose pleasing length of briary, sour-edged palate-staining fruit and fresh cedar/vanilla/chocolate oak has a finely integrated, sandpapery spine of grainy tannin, finishing with length and fresh, soft acids.
A well-made but jammy merlot that reflects its hot vintage. Very ripe aromas of raspberries, dark cherries and lightly smoky vanilla oak are developing leathery undertones. Medium to full-bodied, smooth and sweetly fruited, the palate is underpinned by a fine, dusty undercarriage but remains marginally hollow and confectionary.
Still very youthful, this long-term merlot has a wild, briary and slightly meaty bouquet whose dense aromas of dark plums, blackberries, dark cherries and red berry fruits are developing cedary, leathery influences. Richly flavoured, its fiery and chocolatey, with a dense expression of dark plums, dried herbs, blackberries and assertive oak backed by nuances of briar and currants, finishing with length, firmness and a hint of spirity warmth. It should acquire great complexity.
A superb merlot whose musky, deeply floral bouquet of dark plums, cherries, mulberries and cassis is finely entwined with smoky notes of cedary oak, revealing nuances of smoked bacon, mocha and baked earth. Medium to fullish in weight, itÕs rich and fiery, with a deep, bloody core of dark plum, berry and cherry flavour tightly balanced with cedar/chocolate/mocha oak and a measured, fine-grained backbone, finishing with briary and mineral notes.
Meaty and savoury, this polished but lean and sinewy merlot has a high-toned bouquet whose slightly baked aromas of black cherries and dark plums, prunes and currants are assertively backed by cedar/mocha and chocolatey oak plus a hint of varnish. Its austere, sour-edged palate of dark fruit and drying, dusty astringency lacks great fruit sweetness and charm, culminating in a long but slightly edgy finish.
